DEPARTMENT OF VERTEBRATE ZOOLOGY
Museum Vertebrate Zoology collection

Specimens number in the tens of thousands. The mammal skin and skeletal collection include specimens mainly from North America and Africa. The bird collection, worldwide in scope, includes skins, sets of eggs and comparative skeletal materials. The amphibian and reptile collection, as well as the fish collection, include materials almost exclusively from Ohio. The 10,000 salamanders came from 66 of Ohio's 88 counties.
Today: Research focuses on amphibian ecology and distribution, and includes a study of speciation of Ohio gray treefrogs and a study of the effects of lamprey control measures on the non-targeted species of the mudpuppy, a long-term study of salamanders and vertebrate surveys of areas in Ohio.
