about us MRI PET ... ultra plus support What's New at HMSA Feature Story MR's ability to detect the difference between normal and abnormal tissue has been greatly enhanced by the introduction of contrast agents into the imaging procedure. Introduced into the body by intravenous injection, they rely on the differences in perfusion between normal tissue and lesions. For instance, Gadolinium does not cross the intact blood-brain barrier; therefore, the accumulation of this contrast agent in certain tissues indicates an abnormality that must be addressed. Obtaining MR images pre- and post-contrast enables the radiologist to more easily detect the number and characterization of lesions and other abnormalities in the area of interest. continue article Press Releases Twinsburg, Ohio – December 15, 2003 Hitachi Medical Systems America, Inc.
