Introduced into the body by intravenous injection, they rely on the differences in perfusion between normal tissue and lesions. For instance, Gadolinium does not cross the intact blood-brain barrier; therefore, the accumulation of this contrast agent in certain tissues indicates an abnormality that must be addressed.
