62. High-Speed Monorail
Developing highspeed monorails, particularly, using maglift technology.

HIGH-SPEED MONORAIL
a "Maglift TM " Technology * Perfect for inter-city corridors where highway right-of-way is available and high-speed, high-capacity service is needed. * For crowded metro (commuter) systems where high passenger-carrying capacity is needed and right-of-way is scarce. Summary of this Web Sit e This monorail system has a wrap-around-the-beam design which makes it extraordinarily stable, safe, comfortable, and fast. It is an advance version of earlier monorail designs with greatly improved performance. This high-speed monorail is powered by a linear motor which is very quiet (has no moving parts), drives the monorail at high speeds, enables it to climb steep grades, and operates in rain, snow or ice. By combining this type of fixed guideway system and linear induction motors, a substantial amount of "lift" can be generated as well as "thrust". This Maglift TM technology has been qualified by the federal government as being eligible for federal funding under traditional "maglev" programs. However, this Maglift

Before adjourning for the Memorial Day recess, the U.S. Senate May 20 gave its approval to the appointment of 21 Senators who will negotiate with House transportation leaders over the details of TEA-21 renewal legislation. The U.S. House of Representatives departed for the recess without completing action on their conferees, deferring its final decision on who will represent the House until Congress reconvenes June 2. Click here for more info on TEA-21 renewal activity Aging Americans: Stranded Without Options The demographics of the United States will change dramatically during the next 25 years as more baby boomers reach their 60s, 70s and beyond. The U.S. Census Bureau projects that the number of Americans age 65 or older will swell from 35 million today to more than 62 million by 2025 - nearly an 80 percent increase. As people grow older, they often become less willing or able to drive, making it necessary to depend on alternative methods of transportation.
