) became a Standing Committee of ANZLIC in 2003 in recognition of the close links between development of national spatial data management policies by ANZLIC and the implementation of these policies by ICSM in areas such as surveying, mapping, geographic names and charting. This arrangement further strengthens the relationship between ANZLIC and ICSM and enables coordinated focus on national priorities and alignment of work programs. ICSM's role is to provide leadership, coordination and standards for surveying, mapping and charting; and facilitate the assemblage and maintenance of national framework datasets . Its membership comprises senior representatives responsible for survey and mapping from all the Australian States and Territories, and the Australian and New Zealand Governments. Within ICSM permanent committees and temporary working groups carry out projects and research for, and provide advice to ICSM in their special fields of expertise, including:

127. The History Of Surveying
THE HISTORY OF surveying. DEFINITION OF surveying. surveying has been traditionally or establishing such points. THE EARLY DAYS OF surveying.
http://pasture.ecn.purdue.edu/~asm215/topics/history.html
THE HISTORY OF SURVEYING
DEFINITION OF SURVEYING
Surveying has been traditionally defined as the science and art of determining the relative positions of points above, on, or beneath the surface of the earth, or establishing such points.
THE EARLY DAYS OF SURVEYING
  • 1400 B.C.
The Egyptians first used it to accurately divide land into plots for the purpose of taxation.
  • 120 B.C.
Greeks developed the science of geometry and were using it for precise land division.
Greeks developed the first piece of surveying equipment (Diopter).
Greeks standardized procedures for conducting surveys.
    THE EARLY DAYS OF SURVEYING
  • 1800 A.D. Beginning of the industrial revolution.
The importance of "exact boundaries" and the demand for public improvements (i.e. railroads, canals, roads) brought surveying into a prominent position.
      More accurate instruments were developed.
Science of Geodetic and Plane surveying were developed.
    SURVEYING TODAY
Today surveying affects most everything in our daily lives. A few of the areas where surveying is being used are:
  • To map the earth above and below the sea.
  • 128. The Conrad Blucher Institute For Surveying And Science

He spoke about the wonderful and exciting career opportunities for students interested in Geology. His presentations centered on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and how they are used to survey the Earth to collect information for research and projects. Students were shown aerial photographs of the Corpus Christi area as well as Land Sat Imagery of Texas. Mark Beaman March 12, 2004 The Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) project at CBI will begin field sampling again starting the week of March 15, 2004. Teams will be deployed weekly through the end of August 2004. The TMDL field teams will be sampling streams in South and Central Texas that are impaired for Dissolved Oxygen, Bacteria, or both. The teams will be taking routine water samples as well as bacterial samples and 24hr dissolved oxygen measurements at each stream location. February 20, 2004
