Scientific classification Kingdom:: Animalia Phylum: Mollusca Class: Cephalopoda Subclass: Coleoidea Order: Teuthida Suborders Myopsina
Oegopsina
The squid is a marine mollusc of the class Cephalopoda , subclass Coleoidea , order Teuthida , of which there are two major suborders, Myopsina and Oegopsina (the latter includes Architeuthis dux , the giant squid ). Teuthida edges out the order Octopoda , the octopuses, for total number of species, with 298 classified into 28 families. Like all cephalopods, they are distinguished by having a distinct head, bilateral symmetry and tentacles with suckers; squid, like cuttlefish , have eight arms and two tentacles arranged in pairs. They also have chromatophores imbedded in their skin and the ability to expel ink if threatened. Being coleoids means that their bony structure is internalized (in the

  • 104. The Giant Squid
The CryptoZoo on Monstrous.com is your first source about thegiant squid and other sea monsters studied by cryptozoology.
    http://cryptozoo.monstrous.com/the_giant_squid.htm
Back to Monstrous Aliens Demons Dragons Fairies ... Sightings There have been myriad accounts of sea goers and their encounters with creatures unknown to the world. There are reported attacks, harmless sightings, or mysterious carcasses washing ashore. The descriptions range from giant versions of known species, such as squid or jellyfish, to horned serpents, sea monsters with hair, and anything else imaginable. Many of the "serpents" are said to swim in an undulating manner, unlike the side-to-side motion of fish. There have also been detailed encounters beasts resembling the thought-to-be-extinct dinosaurs, such as the plesiosaur.
Description The most striking feature of the Architheutis duxis its long, torpedo-shaped body, with 10 tentacles, two of which extend longer than the rest. It has a strong beak, similar to a parrot’s and large round eyes. When the cone shaped squid head sticks out of the water with its tentacles deployed, it might look like a serpent head and tail from a distance. Also a single tentacle with a club of suckers on the end might look like the head and neck of a Pleisosaur.
    Origin
The Kraken of legend is probably what we know today as the giant squid . While a colossal octopus might also fit the description, the squid is thought to be much more aggressive and more likely to come to the surface. Though giant squids are considerably less then a mile and a half across, they are large enough to wrestle with a sperm whale.

This patch fixes most of the problems with overlapping entries in splay trees, most visible through the 'This may break Splay tree searching' warning. The only situation which it cannot handle yet is overlaps like 172.16.1.1-172.16.1.10 and 172.16.1.6-172.16.1.15 in one and the same list. I'm using this in production with accesslist of over 4000 entries which contain lots of overlapping entries. NOTE: the squid-2.2.STABLE3 version

    1. Introduction
This ACL Proxy Authentication with External Programs patch implements proxy authentication as a normal ACL and with external authentication programs which are allowed to block. It is a generalization of my earlier patches With the patch applied you can do things like: authenticate_program /usr/local/squid/bin/ncsa_auth authenticate_options /usr/local/squid/etc/passwd authenticate_children 5 acl our_lan src x.x.x.x/24 acl isp_dialin_pool src x.x.x.x/24 acl passwd proxy_auth http_access allow our_lan http_access allow isp_dialin_pool passwd http_access deny all This gives proxy access to people from our_lan without a password and also from an ISP's dialin pool if a username/password combination is used. All others are denied.

A number of people choose to monitor Squid with MRTG. Doing this with the more modern versions of MRTG requires very few changes and is quite an easy process. To get started first get a copy of MRTG.
    Getting MRTG
You can obtain MRTG from their homepage. If you already have MRTG to monitor your routers, please make sure it is at least version 2.7.3. To properly use MRTG 2.7.3 you will need to apply this patch , it is not required for 2.7.5. Please follow the build instructions on the MRTG home page and install the required files.
    Configuring MRTG
To actually get MRTG working with squid you need to create a configuration file. An example MRTG Configuration File is included here.

    Giant squid attacks boat
January 17 2003 A French yacht taking part in the Jules Verne round-the-world sailing trophy has been attacked by a giant squid in the mid-Atlantic, its skipper announced by radio link. Veteran yachtsman Oliver de Kersauson, at the helm of the trimaran Geronimo, said the boat was hit by strange vibrations on Sunday, so he sent a crew member below deck to try to identify what was wrong. "Suddenly he saw something moving," de Kersauson said. "It was tentacles. "The squid was pulling really hard, so we put the boat about and when we came to a stop the tentacles let go. We saw it behind the boat - and it was enormous. I have been sailing for 40 years, and I have never seen the like," he said. Crew member Didier Ragault, who spotted the creature through a port-hole said "the tentacles were as thick as my arm wearing an oil-skin, and I immediately thought of the damage it could do. Duplicate Transfer Detection
Goal: When we have a squid implemented with Duplicate Storage Avoidance, we will be able to find a content based on its MD5 digest. Hence if we use an HTTP HEAD request to ask for Content-MD5 before we send a GET request to the server, we can check whether we have the content in disk before we initiate the GET request. If we do have it in disk already, we can save the GET request all together. Status: A somewhat working alpha version is available. Please check the Web Site for details.
