Configuring Hierarchical Squid Caches
Duane Wessels, wessels@nlanr.net
August 19, 1997 Configuring Web caches in a hierarchy or mesh can be a daunting process. Caching software such as Squid offers many configuration options. We explain the implications for joining a cache mesh and discuss when certain features will or will not provide benefits. We present common-case scenarios for Internet service providers, corporations, and educational institutions. We also explain how to understand and process cache log files to determine how your cache is interacting with the mesh.

83. Exotic Seafood Salad Thaï-Style
Made with squid, crab claws, prawns, bream, onions, and wine.
http://www.therecipebox.com/members/box/seafood/sea0145.htm
Exotic Seafood Salad Thaï-Style From: Dominique, Paris, France Comments: With this salad from the sea, delicately flavored with fresh and dried ground coriander, you will be taken to a perfect beach, under the shadow of coconut trees where you will laze by the sea breeze. For the illusion to be perfect, it is possible to add tiny fresh hot peppers to the sauce, your stomach allowing of course. Even better, serve a small bowl of pickled peppers where only those of your guests who want to and who are not afraid of having their palace get into 'fire' will dig.
Serve with a cold [46 to 50°F / 8 to 10°C] white Bordeaux wine. Servings: Ingredients Preparation
  • 10 1/2 ounces [300 g] squids [white only], cleaned
  • 3 tablespoons [45 mL] oil
  • 1 medium-size red onion
  • 1 medium-size white onion
  • 3 1/2 ounces [100 mL] white wine
  • 3 1/2 ounces [100 g] small crab claws, shelled
  • Boiling water
  • 12 large prawns
  • 5 1/4 ounces [150 g] Chinese thin noodles
  • 4 pink sea bream fillets, skin on
  • 4 fresh coriander sprigs
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1 tablespoon [15 mL] cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] reserved cooking liquid
  • 4 tablespoons [60 mL] peanut oil
  • 2 teaspoons [10 mL] sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] freshly peeled, chopped ginger

    Squid
Nototodarus sloanii, N. gouldi Squid fishery Arrow squid are mainly caught around the coast of the South Island and off the Campbell and Auckland Islands, usually by mid-water trawling but sometimes by jigging.
Squid are a favoured food of seals and sealions, which sometimes accidentally get caught in trawl nets. To stop this happening, companies have developed a code of practice for catching squid by trawl in these areas. They have also built special mechanisms into their nets to help seals escape if they do accidently get caught.
Squid jigging is done at night using specialised boats. Powerful lights shine on the water to attract squid. Lures are set through a pulley arrangement and automatically jigged up and down in the light beams. When the machine controlling the line senses a squid has grabbed the lure, the line is hauled in. Lure hooks are barb-less, so that as lures are pulled in over a set of end rollers, the squid fall off into collecting areas.
For more information on quotas see Management and Sustainability Squid exports Arrow squid exports in the year ending December 2000 were worth $NZ 42 million.

Recipe for Seafood Soup This is one of the recipes that has been provided by Shirley Cline from San Fransisco. (You can contact Shirley by emailing her - click here ). Shirley said: "This is a wonderful soup. The recipe comes from 'The Campagna Table' ". "When choosing your own fish, you can add and subtract from the recipe as you like. The garlic rubbed bread adds a starchiness that makes the dish more substantial. Unlike most other soups, this shouldn't be cooked for a long time. Simmer it gently just until the fish are tender and juicy and the broth is flavorful". Ingredients 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil plus additional for serving
    2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced

James' Marine Life Postcards Want to learn more about Cephalopods? References and Credits Introduction to Cephalopods
What group of animals can change color faster than a chameleon plus change texture and body shape, has three hearts pumping blue blood, is jet powered, has members in all oceans of the world - from the tropics to the poles - the intertidal to the abyss, has inspired legends and stories since recorded history, is thought to be the most intelligent of invertebrates and yet is related to animals such as clams and oysters, has members that can squeeze through the tiniest of cracks, is related to garden slugs yet has eyes and other senses that rival our own, and can make their own 'smoke screen' or 'decoys' out of ink? Cephalopods, the group in which scientists classify octopuses, squid, cuttlefish and nautiluses can do all these things and more. Octopuses, squids, cuttlefish and the chambered nautilus belong to class Cephalopoda, which means 'head foot'. Cephalopods are mollusks and therefore are related to bivalves (scallops, oysters, clams), gastropods (snails and slugs), scaphopoda (tusk shells), and polyplacophorans (chitons). Some of these mollusks, like the bivalves, don't even have a head, much less something large enough to be called a brain! Yet cephalopods have well developed senses and large brains and are thought to be the most intelligent of all invertebrates. Most mollusks are protected by a shell and many of them are not very mobile. Although the ancient nautilus has an external shell, the trend in cephalopods is to internalize and reduce the shell. The shell in cuttlefish, when present, is internal. The cuttlebone from cuttlefish is sold in many pet shops to supply calcium to birds. Squid also have a reduced internal shell called a pen. Octopuses lack a shell all together.
