103. Canonical List Of Space Transportation Methods
Attempts to list all known space propulsion methods.
http://www.geocities.com/danielravennest/CanonicalList.html
Canonical List of
Space Transportation and Engineering Methods Version 0.79 July 26, 2001 by Dani Eder DaniEder@aol.com This document is a an attempt list of all known space transport and space engineering methods. It includes only those methods whose underlying physical principles are understood (i.e. no Star Trek warp drives). It is the product of a number of years of collecting and, occasionally, inventing them. I am motivated by a desire to see civilization expand into space and my frustration by the slow pace of progress to date. Most current space vehicles and projects use techniques that existed in the 1950's and 1960's. Some new ideas were developed as early as 1960, but have not been put into used even today. From the 1970's to today many additional ideas have been generated. Most of these have received scant attention. By disseminating information on these ideas, I hope others will realize the vast untapped potential contained in these ideas. This draft (version 0.79) lists all the concepts I am aware of, with at least a basic description of each. As you can tell by the version number, which is less than one, this is still very much a work in progress. Later versions of this document are intended to flesh out each method with improved descriptions and current references. If you know of a method which is not on this list, I would appreciate being informed of it. If you have references or text descriptions on a concept, they would be appreciated also. Some related information on the basics of space transport, the forces and energies used, and space project engineering are included. Editorial comments and material that needs lots of editing appear in square brackets.

Archives Articles Independent Developers ... Play Games! The Unofficial, Unexpurgurated, Unassuming Complete History of Sierra's Space Quest By Adam Rodman Back in 1985, Sierra On-Line was a small company based in Seattle that developed adventure games. After the surprising success of Roberta Williams' game, King's Quest, two of the Sierra members that had worked on it approached CEO Ken Williams with a proposition: could they make a humorous science-fiction adventure game based on the trials of an intergalactic janitor? Their names: Scott Murphy and Mark Crowe, a programmer and an artist, respectively. Ken was, to say the least, skeptical. So the two valiant programmers put together a demo, which would later become the first four levels of Space Quest 1: The Sarien Encounter. Scott programmed, Mark did the art, and Ken Williams absolutely loved the demo. In the mid-1980s, point-and-click games weren't even considered a possibility by developers. Graphic adventure games were little more than souped-up versions of text-only games.

Apollo 1 Fire - Early Blow to the Space Race
It was January 27, 1967 and the crew of Apollo/Saturn 204 (more commonly known as Apollo 1 mission) were training for the first crewed Apollo flight, an Earth orbiting mission scheduled to be launched on 21 February. They were involved in a "plugs-out" test, with the Command Module mounted on the Saturn 1B on the launch pad just as in the actual launch, but the rocket was not fueled. This test was a simulation, going through an entire countdown sequence.
At 6:31 PM, a voice (later believed to be Roger Chaffee) exclaimed, “Fire, I smell fire.” Two seconds later, Ed White voice came over the circuit, “Fire in the cockpit.” The final voice transmission from crew was very garbled. “They’re fighting a bad fire—let’s get out. Open ‘er up” or, “We’ve got a bad fire—let’s get out. We’re burning up” or, “I’m reporting a bad fire. I’m getting out.” The transmission ended with cry of pain, perhaps from pilot.

Since they've been alway positive about this game, so is their interview. EVE probably won't address every online gamers' tastes. In particular, the initial learning curve is fairly long, and the travel and combat elements aren't likely to suit players who want fast-paced action. On the other hand, the game offers a wealth of complexity and freedom in areas like character skill customization and its economy and political systems. read more 0 comments Interviews Homeworld on axis Homeworld 2 Posted by kkania on Jul 19 2003 at 18:29 GameAxis interviewed Relic's Dan Irish about the latest Homerold game.
