Welcome
Welcome to the Norwegian Solar Energy Society. The Society was founded in 1981 and has currently about 110 members. We are promoting the utilization of solar energy in Norway through education, research, technology development and marketing. The society actively advocates the political actions necessary to make renewable energy sources (non-hydro power) competitive on the national energy market. The Norwegian Solar Energy Society, ISES Norway, is a national section of the International Solar Energy Society

A Study of the Absorption and Reflection of Solar Energy When Applied to Different Colors
ABSTRACT
The major idea that we state in our hypothesis is that if an object is a darker color, then it will absorb more heat than a lighter colored object will. It also states that if an object is a lighter color, then it will reflect more heat than a darker color.
In order to find out if our hypothesis is true, we had to conduct an experiment. In our experiment we placed a thermometer inside a box. We used four different boxes of different colors, red, yellow, white, and black. The boxes had holes in the top and the walls of the box were to either absorb or reflect heat. We have tested this experiment many times and each time we have proved our hypothesis correct. Each time the darker color absorbed more heat and the thermometer proved that this had happened. And the thermometer also proved that the lighter color reflected more heat because the temperature was lower.
Even though many scientists have done this experiment and proved that what we stated in our hypothesis was true, we still wanted to prove to ourselves that what we stated was a fact, and we also wanted to know to what extent the color of an object affected its ability to absorb or reflect solar energy.

Can society meet its energy needs without pollution?
Alternative energy sources are far less polluting than traditional fuels, although they may have other drawbacks. One source of alternative energy is the sun. The Earth is bathed in huge amounts of the sun’s energy. We can use this solar energy directly, simply by capturing sunlight.
Solar energy is our oldest energy source
Humans have always used the sun’s energy directly (eg, for drying clothes and foodstuffs), as well as indirectly to power the agriculture that supplies us with food. This century we have started to use solar energy more effectively, and it is likely that we’ll increase its use in the future.
It’s reliable, free and clean, but...
The great feature of solar energy is the fact that it is likely to continue to exist so far into the future that we can think of it as being unending. It is, therefore, a form of

THE HAZARDS OF SOLAR ENERGY
Over the years I have heard and read much nonsense, to the point where nothing surprises me any more. Recently an item caught my eye, a pamphlet put out by the Citizens' Reactionary Alliance Concerned with Keeping the Environment Decent. It's a nice example of the style and `logic' common to propaganda pieces from many groups of alarmists and `aginers.' Many groups and individuals are proposing that our government spend tax money on research and development of systems to utilize solar energy. They urge construction of vast solar energy collectors to convert sunlight to electricity to supply our energy needs. They would even put solar collectors on roofs of homes, factories, schools, and other buildings. Proponents of this technology claim that energy obtained from the sun will be safer and cleaner than coal, oil, or nuclear energy sources. We view these proposals with alarm. Unscrupulous scientists and greedy promoters are hoodwinking a gullible public. We consider it rash and dangerous to commit our country to the use of solar energy. This solar technology has never been utilized on such a large scale, and we have no assurance of its long-range safety. Not one single study has been done to assess the safety of electricity from solar energy as compared to electricity from other sources. The promoters of solar energy cleverly lead you to believe that it is perfectly safe. Yet they conveniently neglect to mention that solar energy is generated by

Solar Energy
Solar energy, provided by the sun, is constantly replenished and will not produce harmful pollution unlike fossil fuels. Solar energy may be used passively, such as to heat and light buildings, or technology may be used to harness the sun's energy by collecting it and transforming it to generate electricity. Current technologies include photovoltaics, concentrating solar, solar hot water, and more.
