A faint 3.8 GHz drifting continuous wave (CW) narrow band signal is visible below. Although this signal was of terrestrial origin (you are looking at the 30th harmonic of an ovenized 128 MHz TTL oscillator soldered to a resistor lead, mounted two yards BEHIND the dish for high attenuation, mixed with actual sky signal at RA 19:46:05 DEC +40 43), we are searching for real signals that have a similar drifting CW characteristic due to possible doppler shift. The horizontal axis of this display block corresponds to 600 channels (1 Hz per channel), and the vertical axis represents time (240 lines at 2 seconds per line). The slope of this signal is approximately + 3 Hz per second, with an inflection reversing to - 3 Hz per second. Unlike this test signal, a real extraterrestial source would be expected to maintain a constant slope. BAMBI Sites: SITE A: California. SITE B: Colorado.

Starting in the late 1950s, researchers have been performing progressively more sensitive searches, but each search has been limited by the technologies available at the time. As radio frequency technologies have become more efficient and computers have become faster, the searches have grown larger and more sensitive. The SETI@home project, managed by a group of researchers at the Space Sciences Laboratory of the University of California, Berkeley, is the first attempt to use large-scale distributed computing to perform a sensitive search for radio signals from extraterrestrial civilizations. En af de mest populære er, at lytte efter radio signaler fra andre stjerner. SETI@home klient til Windows Hvad er SETI@home? Det meste af SETIs eftersøgning foregår på US Berkeleys store computere, de analysere data fra radioteleskopet i real-time. SETI@home holdet håber på at kunne overtale dig, til at låne dem din computer når den står ubenyttet tændt, og hjælpe dem med at søge for efter liv. Optical SETI at Harvard At a glance: A high-intensity pulsed laser, teamed with a moderate sized telescope, forms an efficient interstellar beacon. Using only "Earth 2000" technology, we could build such a laser transmitter. To a distant observer in the direction of its slender beam, it would appear (during its brief pulse) a thousand times brighter than our sun. Beginning October 19, 1998 we have been searching for such intense laser pulses, transmitted deliberately in our direction by another civilization in order to initiate communication across interstellar distances.
