More and more people throughout the world are spending more and more of their leisure time in environments that not only provide recreation, but have the potential to inform, enlighten, and educate. Such environments include museums, art galleries, visitor centers, aquariums, botanical gardens science centers heritage sites, parks, zoos, and, other public-access recreational educational facilities. The Visitor Studies Association (VSA) is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to the proposition that these facilities, in addition to meeting their own organizational objective, should be effective meeting the expectations, needs, and interests of visitors. While there are many awards for scholastic and professional achievement in the various fields of science, we believe it is equally important to recognize the people whose influence and support make it possible for girls to become engaged in science and for women to reach the same high levels of accomplishment as their male peers. The first award was presented on October 4, 1997. The seventh annual award, to be presented on October 1, 2004, will be given to a recipient selected by a national jury of distinguished educators and scientists. Back to top
Award Winners
The first award was presented on October 4, 1997 to several people closely affiliated with the Maria Mitchell Association. They were: Dr. Henry Albers, Edith Andrews, Eileen McGrath and Dr. Dorrit Hoffleit. The 1998 award was presented to the Women in Engineering Program at Purdue University after national selection by a distinguished jury of educators and scientists.

This is the joint home page of the three Museums of Natural History at the University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Science. These museums include Danish Royal collections from the 17th and 18th Century, but most material has been acquired during the 19th and the 20th Century. The museums are important reference collections and research centres as well as public museums with exhibitions.
The public activities are listed below.
  • The Botanical Museum and Library has only temporary exhibitions.
    Aflyst på grund af besparelser for 2004 The Geological Museum
    has permanent public exhibitions, including: "Minerals", "Meteorites", "The Geology of Greenland" and "The Origin of Man". A temporary exhibition: "The Earth and the oldest History of Life" opened in October 1997. The exhibition on "The Geology of Denmark" is presently being renewed. The Zoological Museum has three permanent public exhibitions: "Animals of Denmark", "From Pole to Pole" and "The Ocean Hall". Currently, the museum has a temporary exhibition of animals and their skeletons, to be replaced by an exhibition of fabulous animals.
