The Institute for Marine Remote Sensing (IMaRS) of the College of Marine Science is located in the Knight Oceanographic Research Center (KORC) building at the University of South Florida (USF) in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Our research activities focus on the analysis of digital data obtained by satellite and airborne sensors, and on the development of applications of these data at local, regional, and global scales. The main objective is to provide a better understanding of the world oceans on a large spatial and temporal scale. In situ optical and biological data are collected for ground truthing and to relate the apparent and inherent optical properties of water constituents with the remote sensors' signal. We specialize in coastal processes of highly variable regions like the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea and Cuba using instruments such as AVHRR, CZCS, SeaWiFS, MODIS, and Landsat. We use other sensors such as altimeters and scatterometers to examine the physical environment in the adjacent deep ocean. IMaRS Home

Black Rock City, NV Community: The goal of VTP is to foster the creation of tools for easily constructing any part of the real world in interactive, 3D digital form. This goal will require a synergetic convergence of the fields of CAD, GIS, visual simulation, surveying and remote sensing. VTP gathers information and tracks progress in areas such as procedural scene construction, feature extraction, and rendering algorithms. VTP writes and supports a set of software tools, including an interactive runtime environment ( VTP Enviro ). The tools and their source code are freely shared to help accelerate the adoption and development of the necessary technologies. The Earth and Planetary Remote Sensing group is involved with many diverse research interests. These interests range from planetary science to sea and lake ice to volcanoes to ecology and include much more! Our unique Earth location allows us to receive multiple images daily from polar orbiting satellites. We are fortunate to receive data in real time, such as AVHRR, MODIS and SeaWIFs, at our receiving stations. The group also has access to additional data and knowledge from other associated remote sensing groups at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, such as the Alaska Satellite Facility What's New: There is now a Remote Sensing logo available for your posters and outreach material! Abstract of ‘A Critical Assessment of Intraseasonal Oscillations,’ which was published in the International Journal of Remote Sensing It deals with the question of what methods are proper for finding oscillations in the atmosphere, and which ones are not. View the whole paper here ‘Inversion of Systems of Quadratic Equations.’ This was recently published in the International Journal of Remote Sensing ‘The Hyperbolic Geometry of SAR Imaging ’ describes a new method of forming images from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data. The method, called w -k Migration , provides a mathematically exact solution to the SAR imaging problem. This is especially important for ultrawideband radars.
