Introduction

Travel to the nearby star systems using maximum velocities greater than 0.5 light speed can be initiated using essentially current technology. After placing the Power Collector Beam Collimator/ Controller Station in solar orbit and placing the assembled Interstellar Vehicle in earth geosynchronous orbit, the Alpha Centauri system can be reached in from 10 years (highly optimistic) to 40 years (reasonably optimistic) . An operational concept is presented with high level design descriptions supporting this assertion. The design, development, test, and production of this system will be a global economic driver exceeding that of the combined effects of the jet transport and information service processing industries of the 20th century. Can such a rising tide fail to lift each boat? This will generate a veritable economic tsunami! Interstellar exploration and the colonization of extrasolar planets will provide a source of immense enhancement of human species survivability; to delay development and operation of such a capability is unconscionable. It is the fate of sentient

146. Seafury Surface Piercing Propulsion Units, Surface Drives And Surface Piercing P
The unique features of Seafury propulsion Systems surfacepiercing propellersprovide exceptionally quiet and economical high speed power boat cruising.
http://www.seafury.com/
Seafury Surface Drives are ideally suited for commercial vessels including high-speed ferries, fishing boats, commercial dive boats, excursions boats, restaurant and casino boats, work boats, crew boats, water taxis, and pollution control craft. Government agencies operation rescue, patrol, fire fighting, drug interdiction, and coast guard vessels also select surface drives.
To optimise boat performance, productivity and fuel economy, Seafury drives match to most marine diesel and may also be used with many marine gasoline and gas turbine engines. Twin and triple installations increase the total installed propulsion power.
Quality pleasure boats also benefit from the high performance, durability, light weight, and efficiency of Seafury surface drives.
Seafury drives offer many advantages compared with some of the more complex surface drives including easy installation, high performance, smooth operation, low maintenance, and excellent value. Especially notable is the unique 45-degree transom for excellent reversing characteristics and the integral engine exhaust. Minimal moving parts, no external hydraulics or electrical components make this a very simple drive to install and maintain.
Surface drives are typically applied with planing and semi-planing hulls free of the drag inducing appendages (underwater propellers, rotating shafts, skegs, and rudders) normally associated with underwater propeller drives.

Propulsion Modeling
CFD Research Corporation provides software tools and consulting services for modeling and simulation of propulsion phenomena for a wide range of applications. Our software tools are widely used by our engineers and software customers for the analysis of real-world propulsion applications. We offer solutions for low subsonic to hypersonic speed regimes. Our propulsion applications include:
  • Inlets - Both CFD-ACE+ and CFD-FASTRAN have been and are currently used for the prediction of flows entering through various air intake systems. Hypersonic - Shown on this page is a graphic from a simulation of a Mach 5 waverider vehicle. The calculation was done nose to tail, with discreet boundary layer bleed and spray combustion of a hydrocarbon fuel. MDICE enabled this calculation to be performed as a coupled 2D/3D simulation. Rocket Propulsion CFD-ACE+ is unique among flow solvers in that it can support the introduction of both fuel and oxidizer types as liquid spray. Recent advances in spray modeling allow more realistic splash effects and drop/drop interactions. The simulation at right started from ambient conditions. As the fuels evaporated, the gas-phase chemistry raised both the pressure and temperature to steady-state conditions.

Designing the Flyer Construction and Fabric Propulsion System Engine Flight Controls Return to Kitty Hawk Triumph! ... Patenting The last obstacle to powered flight was the propulsion system. The term propulsion system is important. Wilbur and Orville recognized that developing an effective propeller, and an efficient transmission linkage to the power plant, was just as crucial as building a suitable engine.
Seeking a power plant for their airplane, the Wrights contacted many of the dozens of firms that by then were manufacturing gasoline engines. Ten responded, but none could meet power and weight requirements the Wrights specified, or could do so at a reasonable price. Undeterred, the brothers decided to build their own. Charlie Taylor's tools Whether he used any of these to make the Wright engine is not known, but he did own them at the time he worked on it. Jolting Into Space Beyond Our Solar System Lots More Information Shop or Compare Prices For decades, the only means of space travel have been rocket engines that run off of chemical propulsion. Now, at the beginning of the 21st century, aerospace engineers are devising innovative ways to take us to the stars , including light propulsion nuclear-fusion propulsion and antimatter propulsion. A new type of spacecraft that lacks any propellant is also being proposed. This type of spacecraft, which would be jolted through space by electromagnets , could take us farther than any of these other methods.

Hamilton Jet
Pioneers of Waterjet Propulsion In 1954, on a shallow fast flowing river in the back country of the South Island of New Zealand, a small boat overcame the forces of nature to travel upstream against the current. The boat was a Hamilton Jetboat, and is recognised as the genesis of the modern waterjet propulsion system. Today, waterjets are the preferred propulsion choice for a wide range of pleasure and commercial craft where high efficiency, outstanding manoeuvrability, shallow draft capability and low maintenance are key requirements. The Hamilton organisation remains at the forefront of this industry through the activities of its two operating divisions, Hamilton Jet and Hamilton Marine

This rocket is expected to enable long-term human exploration of outer space.
Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas I sp ) places the VASIMR far ahead of anything available today. Inasmuch as this rocket can utilize hydrogen as its propellant, it can be operated at relatively low cost. Because the VASIMR uses plasma to produce thrust, it is related to several previously developed thrusters; namely, the ion engine, the stationary plasma thruster (SPT) (also known as the Hall thruster), and the magnetoplasmadynamic (MPD) thruster [also known as the Lorentz-force accelerator (LFA)]. However, the VASIMR differs considerably from these other thrusters in that it lacks electrodes (a lack that enables the VASIMR to operate at much greater power densities) and has an inherent capability to achieve high and variable I sp . Both the ion engine and the SPT are electrostatic in nature and can only accelerate ions present in plasmas by means of either (1) externally applied electric fields (i.e., applied by an external grid as on an ion engine) or (2) axial charge nonuniformity as in the SPT. These ion-acceleration features, in turn, result in accelerated exhaust beams that must be neutralized by electron sources strategically located at the outlets before the exhaust streams leave the engines. In the LFA, acceleration is not electrostatic but electromagnetic. A radial electric current flowing from a central cathode interacts with a self-generated azimuthal magnetic field to produce acceleration. Although LFAs can operate at power levels higher than those of either the ion engine or the SPT and do not require charge neutralization, their performances are still limited by the erosion of their electrodes.
