My interests center on sensory neural coding and natural scene statistics. In 2003 I joined the faculty of the Neurobiology department at UCSD . In my laboratory we do theory, electrophysiology, and human vision research. I am affiliated with the Neuroscience Computational Neurobiology , and Biology graduate programs at UCSD. The links below describe current research in my lab as well as work I did over the last several years in the Reid Lab at Harvard Medical School, in the Koch Group at Caltech, and in the Meister Lab at Harvard University.

Description
Evolutionary game theory studies equilibria of games played by an populations of players, where the "fitness" of the players derives from the success each player has in playing the game. It provides a tool for describing situations where a number of agents interact, where agents might change the strategy they follow at the end of any particular interaction. Why do we care about this? Many people have attempted to use traditional game theory to analyze economic or political problems, which typically involve a large population of agents interacting. However, traditional game theory is a "static"
theory, which reduces its usefulness in analyzing these very sorts of situations. Evolutionary game theory improves upon traditional game theory by providing a dynamics describing how the population will change over time. The simplest evolutionary game theoretic models are based upon the the replicator dynamics . Although a fruitful place to start, the replicator dynamics make a number of assumptions which can reasonably be questioned for human populations. Namely:

times since Jan. 1, 2001 The Center for Demography and Population Health at Florida State University is an autonomous, interdisciplinary unit of the College of Social Sciences . The Center's mission is to coordinate and conduct demographic and population health research and training throughout the university by bringing together faculty and students from various academic departments and programs who are working in these areas.
The Center also offers graduate-level training in demography and population health, including a program leading to a Master of Science degree in Demography and the facilitation of an undergraduate program leading to a Certificate in Demographics
The Center is the only unit within the State University System of Florida which is wholly dedicated to teaching, research, and service in demography and population health.

The Power of Citizen Science
All across North America, thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds are participating in the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's research projects. From backyards and city streets to remote forests, these people represent the world's largest research team. We call them citizen scientists. Educators! The Lab's citizen-science projects work great in elementary and middle-school classrooms. They promote scientific inquiry through children's natural fascination with birds. Learn more
eBird
eBird is a continent-wide, year-round survey of North American birds. Participants can enter observations of any bird, from anywhere, at anytime. eBird uses state of the art Web technology to provide a simple and flexible, yet powerful, way for participants to track the birds they see and share that information with scientists, teachers, amateur naturalists, and other birders.

Golden-winged Warbler Atlas Project
The Golden-winged Warbler Atlas Project (GOWAP) is designed to determine the population status and habitat and area requirements of the Golden-winged and the Blue-winged warblers as well as their hybrids. This study engages volunteer birders and professional biologists to study golden-wings at known and potential breeding sites.
