141. Mendel
Brief biography about Dimitri Mendeleev, the developer of the periodic table.
http://www.pbs.org/wnet/hawking/cosmostar/html/cstars_mendel.html
DMITRI MENDELEEV B orn in Siberia, the last of at least 14 children, Dmitri Mendeleev (1834-1907) revolutionized our understanding of the properties of atoms and created a table that probably adorns every chemistry classroom in the world. After his father went blind and could no longer support the family, Mendeleevís mother started a glass factory to help make ends meet. But just as Mendeleev was finishing high school, his father died and the glass factory burned down. With most of her other children now out on their own, his mother took her son to St. Petersburg, working tirelessly and successfully to get him into college. In the late 1860s, Mendeleev began working on his great achievement: the periodic table of the elements. By arranging all of the 63 elements then known by their atomic weights, he managed to organize them into groups possessing similar properties. Where a gap existed in the table, he predicted a new element would one day be found and deduced its properties. And he was right. Three of those elements were found during his lifetimeógallium, scandium, and germanium. They provided the strongest support for his periodic table, a cornerstone both in chemistry and in our understanding of how the universe is put together.

Norman , Ruth-Mary Larimer , and Laura Guthrie Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, CA University of California, Berkeley, CA University of California, Irvine, CA Acalanes High School, Lafayette, CA History , and in 1901 he was awarded the very first Nobel Prize in physics for this discovery . Soon after, Charles Glover Barkla discovered that each element has its own characteristic x-ray spectrum . He was awarded a Nobel Prize in physics for this discovery in 1917 . Sir William Henry Bragg and his son, Sir William Lawrence Bragg, were then able to experimentally prove that the discrete electron energy levels of an atom, an idea proposed by Niels Bohr, actually existed . They were awarded the Nobel Prize in physics for this in 1915 . After this groundwork in x-ray spectroscopy was established, Henry Moseley showed that each element’s characteristic x-ray energy spectrum followed the predictions of the Bohr atomic model . He developed a graphical method to display this data, now known as the Moseley diagram, which is displayed in Figure 1. This diagram was the first way that scientists were able to definitively establish the atomic numbers of the elements

In Earth's ecosphere, coronene is considered a pollutant, but this polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbon redeems itself as an ultraviolet phosphor for charge-coupled devices (CCDs). Coronene-coated CCDs on the Hubble Space Telescope provide valuable information about molecules in outer space. Coronene has also been observed on the surface of Saturn's moon Titan.

ChemAP is a program related to chemistry programmed totally in English and designed so much for the learning as for the consultation.
ChemAP is not simply a Periodic Table where to consult any data, so that it has utilities to calculate weights, to compare elements, to turn units, to look for elements, to make test, etc... In addition it has data on the elements, constants physical-chemical, indicators, etc... that make of ChemAP an indispensable interactive chemical encyclopedia.
ChemAP has a history that lasts 3 years already. It dates from 1999 when the first version was made. This program has been improved and extending themselves since then, until being created the last version of this project:
    ChemAP 2003.
