The presentation began with Dr. Karnow describing the philosophies at the heart of anthroposophical medicine, which was founded by Rudolf Steiner. In short, anthroposophy is the integration and separation of the spiritual and physical persons, and the further connections to cancer invasion and cancer therapy. Dr. Stoss and Dr. Gorter then went on to explain the intrinsic connection of the mistletoe plant to anthroposophical theory as well as its therapeutic value. Finally, Dr. Tamayo concluded the presentation with a comprehensive summary of the theory and practice of anthroposophical medicine. II. The Cancer-Related Issue Addressed

Scientific glossary of immune and nervous systems terminology.

SCXT310 Glossary: Immune and Nervous Systems (1998)
Acetylcholine : The first known neurotransmitter (1920s); found myoneural junctions of smooth and skeletal muscles and in the parasympathetic system; see cholinergic. ACTH (Adrenocorticotropic hormone) : Corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH), which is secreted by the hypothalamus, stimulates the anterior pituitary's secretion of ACTH , which in turn stimulates corticosteroid (e.g., cortisol) production in the adrenal cortex. Since corticosteroids diminish the inflammatory response, release of CRH from hypothalamus and ACTH from pituitary can be said to result in diminished immunity. This is what occurs in the fright-flight-fight response. Action Potential : Occurs when a neuron is activated; the electrical state of its interior membrane temporarily changes from negative to positive. The electrical charge travels along the axon to the terminal bud where it triggers or inhibits release of neurotransmitter into the synapse. If sufficient transmitter substance is present at the synapse to initiate an action potential in the postsynaptic neuron, the impulse continues. Adrenal Cortex : Secretes corticosteroids, aldosterone, androgens, and estrogens.

    156. Jaargang 33 Juli 1999 Evidence Based Medicine: Betekenis Voor De Farmacotherapie
    Artikel uit het Geneesmiddelenbulletin.
    http://search.geneesmiddelenbulletin.nl/1999/jul/hfd9907.htm
'Nauwgezet' . 'Verstandig gebruik' 'rationele farmacotherapie' , waaronder men meestal verstaat .

    Ancient Medicine/Medicina Antiqua
has moved to http://www.medicinaantiqua.org.uk/ Please redirect your links and bookmarks to the new site. In February 1996 Ancient Medicine/Medicina Antiqua went on line. In designing the site, I hoped to produce a reliable source for peer-reviewed information about the medicine and medical thought of the Greeks and Romans from Mycenaean times to the fall of the Roman Empire. By early 2003 the site had grown, won over a dozen awards, and become one of the Internet's major resources in its field. It had also become too much for me to maintain single-handedly. I am glad, therefore, that the Wellcome Trust for the History of Medicine at University College London has agreed to host the second incarnation of AM/MA, under the direction of Dr. Jason Davies. This institutional support will, I hope, enable Medicina Antiqua to grow and become even more useful to scholars, students, and others interested in Greco-Roman medicine. I am grateful to everyone who contributed to the orginal site in any way, and to Jason Davies for taking it over and moving it forward. Lee T. Pearcy
