If you have a malacology link you know of or manage, please let me know. I would love to include you on this page. I am creating this page to use as a database for all malacologists in order to find the most informative sites for use in research and/or personal interest. I get so sick of going to sites like Excite or Yahoo and having to search through 10,000 documents in order to find what I am looking for. So I decided to make a little part on my site dedicated to easier finding of these documents. Please Email me at Terebra@aol.com if you have a site that you think should be included on this page.

W ELCOME TO THE VITA MARINA SPIRULA ... HOME PAGE
VITA MARINA
Vita Marina is a high quality quarterly magazine on marine zoology with strong emphasis on molluscs. Each issue is a collectors item with useful review articles of interesting groups of molluscs and many colour plates.
Review issues published in the past include for instance worldwide Personidae, Harpidae, Hydatinas, Divaricellas, European Pectinidae, Australian Clanculus as well as interesting faunistic studies and field trip reports (click on contents for a complete listing).
Each issue is like a high quality book on shells but for a much lower price! Please read the review we got in the American Conchologist.
After a decision making process that the board of the Foundation Biologia Maritima - publisher of Vita Marina and Spirula - discussed over several sessions during the months November and December 2000, it was decided to stop the publication of Vita Marina after the 4th issue of volume 47 (published May 2001) and to continue with Spirula, the web page, the Snail Pack and special issues within the context of the Dutch Malacological Society. Spirula continues in a much more appealing style with more topical information and more fieldwork reports, also covering land snails. Of course the home page (with directory and other free e-services) and periodical Snail Pack mailing will also continue.

    COLLECTION
    • Size: The LACM Malacology collection ranks third in the nation terms of number of lots and specimens and contains the largest collection of eastern Pacific mollusks (Arctic Alaska to southern Chile) in the world. The extensive travels and research of curator Dr. James McLean have substantially increased the Malacology holdings to that of a world class collection. Taxonomic Coverage: The collection contains representatives of all of the molluscan classes, although the current emphasis is with the shelled marine gastropods. Marine bivalves, chitons, and scaphopods are also well represented as are freshwater bivalves. LACM maintains one of the largest collections of micromollusks in the nation including the micro-gastropod families Rissoidae, Vitrinellidae, and Caecidae. Holdings of the gastropod family Terebridae were greatly increased by the recent acquisition of the Twila Bratcher collection. Geographic Coverage: LACM malacology maintains a world-wide collection with an emphasis on the eastern Pacific region (Arctic Alaska to southern Chile) and is arranged geographically within each species. Mollusks of the Californian (Point Conception, California to central Baja California) and Panamic (central Baja California to northern Peru) zoogeographic provinces are particularly well represented. The Alaskan holdings were substantially increased in 1992 with the acquistion of mollusks from the collection of the late Rae Baxter.
