THE FIELD
Industrial engineers find best-fit solutions between people, machines, materials, and information technology to improve production. Their goal is to make things faster and better as well as more efficiently, safely, and economically. Industrial engineering involves a combination of engineering and management science to develop and improve such things as products, services, processes, facilities, information systems, work methods and performance standards, human resources planning, production planning and control, financial and cost systems, and distribution. THE PROGRAM
The program is accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board. You are eligible for PEng status after graduation and experience requirement. THEORY
First-year studies include mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, material science, and engineering graphics and design. Second and third year industrial engineering studies focus on engineering economics, work measurement and design, algorithms and Web-based systems, operations research, manufacturing processes and automation, facilities design, systems modelling and simulation, experimental design and quality assurance. Related studies include statistics, numerical analysis, industrial psychology, technical communication, and the mechanics of materials. In your fourth year (fifth if an industrial internship is taken, see details below), you study management-oriented and specialized technological areas such as ergonomics, information systems, and industrial systems design. You also complete a one-term design course and a two-term thesis, working on a specific problem for a local company. Examples of projects you might work on include designing a solar heater, airplane food trays, facilities to house production processes; or an industrial system for a medication-dispensing unit.

WHAT IS INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING
Industrial Engineering is concerned with the analysis, design, improvement, installation and management of integrated systems of people, finances, materials, equipment, energy and information. It draws upon specialised knowledge and skill in the mathematical, physical, physiological,social sciences and now electronic communications together with the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design to specify, predit and evaluate the results to be obtained from such systems and measure achievement.
In short, Industrial Engineering is an aspect of engineering science devoted to getting the best results from available resources, provided always safety, quality, timelynous, costs and human satisfaction are met. IE is geared to promoting Continuous Improvement and Best Operating Practises within organisations.
WHAT IE PROVIDES
