The Boston University Center of Philosophy and History of Science began as an informal inter-university collaboration of colleagues in philosophy, the natural and social sciences, history, psychology, religious studies, and the arts, to stimulate exchange concerning all aspects of the philosophy and history of science, mathematics, and logic. The Center seeks to examine, in the broadest humanistic and social context, the factors that govern the theory and practice of science. The Center is devoted to research, academic programs, special conferences of scholars, public education, and publication in the philosophy and history of sciences.
The Boston Colloquium for Philosophy of Science offers frequent public lectures that reflect the Center's multifaceted agenda, namely an eclectic program that attempts to foster interdisciplinary and international scholarly dialogue concerning the historical and contemporary development of science, its conceptual foundations, and its cultural context.

The history of science and technology links many disciplines and cultures: scientific, technological, humanistic, and social. Smith's program in the History of Science and Technology (HSC) is designed to serve all Smith students. Courses in the program examine science and technology in their cultural and social contexts, and the ways in which scientific inquiries, achievements, and debates have shaped and continue to shape human culture (and vice versa). The History of Science and Technology minor complements majors in the humanities, social sciences, and the natural sciences.
