The History of Science and Technology is a dynamic interdisciplinary field of scholarship that studies the development of science and technology in their broader cultural context. The field is growing rapidly as people realize that science and technology are themselves among the most important cultural phenomena of the modern age. The Program in the History of Science and Technology at the University of Minnesota ranks among the country's best. It offers both M.A. and Ph.D. degrees, with comprehensive opportunities for advanced research and study in history of the physical sciences, the biological sciences, and technology. Within these areas, students are encouraged to make use of the perspectives and methods of intellectual, institutional, social, economic, and cultural history.
The University of Minnesota is an equal opportunity educator and employer.

History of Science on the Internet
Trying to obtain information on history of science on the internet is like stepping into a strange library. You don't know how many books there are and it is not entirely obvious how to find them. The following short survey addresses the problem of how to access the information. It is not, of course, intended to be a comprehensive guide.
How and where to begin
One way to begin finding information on history of science is to access one of the several catalogues (search machines) on the net. None of these are all inclusive.
A much better approach is to access information servers containing addresses on history of science. Three of the best and largest are:
History of Science: Archives and Libraries
Web Resources for the History and Philosophy of Science, Technology and Medicine (Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza, Florence)
Internet sources for science and engineering history (Biblioteca di Ingegneria, Pisa University)
(George Mason University)

I. Introduction
History is the record of human existence, the record of events and ideas. Among the most important ideas have been the ideas of science, ideas that have contributed to the intellectual and material enrichment of human civilization. Understanding of, at minimum, the rudiments of the history of science is essential to understanding the world we live in, and is essential to full understanding of science itself. The explosion of the World Wide Web has led to an explosion in the amount of scholarly (and not so scholarly) information widely available in an electronic format. Not only are materials increasingly available in an electronic medium, the nature of the medium allows for new means of presenting information. No longer are authors or curators limited to the format of a book or traditional museum exhibit. Information may now be presented in a manner that is interactive, dynamic, of multiple source formats, and easily updatable. While this medium is still in its infancy, there are a ever increasing number of sites taking advantage of its possibilities to present information on the history of science.

Program in the history of science, Medicine, and Technology This joint program is run by the Department of the History of Medicine at the School of Medicine
http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/graduateprograms/history_of_science/
The History of Medicine Department is located in the Institute of the History of Medicine on the Johns Hopkins Medical School Campus. Founded in 1929, it is the oldest department of its kind in the United States. The Department has particular strengths in the history of medicine in early modern Europe; U.S. medical history; the history of biomedical sciences; and in the history of disease, public health, and colonial medicine.
In 1962 the History of Science program began at the School of Arts and Sciences. The Department has since expanded to include the history of technology as well as the main branches of science. It concentrates on science and technology since the Renaissance, has particular strength in American science and technology, and is developing a field in East Asian science and technology.
