HEP: Supernovae Shape Up for Cosmology Clustering in Universe Seen as Indicator of Galaxy Evolution
The High Energy Physics (HEP) program's mission is to understand energy and matter at a fundamental level by investigating the elementary particles and the forces between them. This program is the major sponsor of high energy physics research in the US, providing 90% of the Federal support. Until the Large Hadron Collider in Europe is completed in 2007, the US will be the primary center of international activity for experimental research in the field of high energy physics. There is the potential for exciting new discoveries, and the program is positioning itself to take advantage of these opportunities. HEP Program Highlights (149k PDF) Occasional Papers:

AUSHEP (Australian Institute for High Energy Physics)
High Energy Particle Physics (HEP) is an exciting, high profile discipline which explores the basic structure of matter and the fundamental forces in nature. Armed with our present knowledge we can scientifically approach some of the most fundamental intellectual questions ever asked: What was the universe like a billionth of a second after it was created? What will be its fate? What is the origin of mass? Is matter intrinsically stable? The Australian Institute for High Energy Physics (AUSHEP) was founded in 1989 on the initiative of the High Energy Physics groups from the Universities of Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney . The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation ( ANSTO ) and the University of Wollongong later joined AUSHEP as full members, and the University of N.S.W. and the Australian National University joined as Associate Members.
Our Objectives:
  • To promote and coordinate research in HEP in Australia. To encourage theoretical HEP, and in particular the symbiosis between theory and experiment. With the consent of the members to act as the representative body in Australia in a large number of areas, both domestic and international.

Using REDUCE in high energy physics
by A.G.Grozin
Cambridge University Press
, January 1997
hardback, ISBN 0521560020, 384 pages, 55 pounds or 80$
This book describes the use of the symbolic manipulation language REDUCE in particle physics.
There are several general purpose mathematics packages available to physicists, including Mathematica, Maple, and REDUCE. Each has advantages and disadvantages, but REDUCE has been found to be both powerful and convenient in solving a wide range of problems. This book introduces the reader to REDUCE and demonstrates its utility as a mathematical tool in physics. The first chapter of the book describes the REDUCE system, including some library packages. The following chapters show the use of REDUCE in examples from classical mechanics, hydrodynamics, general relativity, and quantum mechanics. The rest of the book systematically presents the Standard Model of particle physics (QED, weak interactions, and QCD). A large number of scattering and decay processes are calculated with REDUCE. All example programs from the book can be downloaded from here. The emphasis throughout is on learning through worked examples.
This will be an essential introduction and reference for high energy and theoretical physicists.

The Department has a long and distinguished history of research in the field of High Energy Physics, which continues to the present. On the experimental side, Department faculty currently participate in a broad range of major experimental endeavors that address such fundamental issues as the search for the origins of symmetries (and their violations) in nature, the possible existence of new particles such as Higgs bosons and supersymmetric partners of the known fundamental particles, on studies of the properties of the heaviest quarks and bosons (top and bottom, W, and the Z), searches for gravitational waves, investigations of neutrino oscillations and neutrino mass, and the substructure of the nucleon. Our experiments include, at Fermilab, CDF (Profs. Bodek McFarland , and Tipton (Profs. Ferbel and Slattery (Profs. Demina Ferbel and Slattery NuTeV and Neutrino Oscillations (Profs.
