AH-64 "Apache" This advanced attack helicopter is flown by nearly all of the division's attack units. The Hughes Apache, one of the stars of the Gulf War, is powered by two 1,536 hp turboshafts and can reach speeds of nearly 200 mph. It routinely carries Hellfire missiles, FFAR rockets and a 30 mm chain gun. UH-60 "Black Hawk" This aircraft, first delivered in 1978, is a division workhorse, used in the combat assault squad transport mode. It also can be configured as a Medevac aircraft. It can fly at speeds of greater than 180 mph and has provisions for mounting two M-60 machineguns as armament. OH-58D "Kiowa Warrior" This is the armed version of the OH-58 scout helicopter. In an armed reconnaissance role, it specializes in night operations and can be armed with 70mm rockets, Hellfire and Stinger missiles and .50-cal. machineguns. It has a 90-knot cruise airspeed. It is used for anti-submarine warfare, search and rescue, drug interdiction, anti-ship warfare, cargo lift, and special operations. The Navy's SH-60B Seahawk is an airborne platform based aboard cruisers, destroyers, and frigates and deploys sonobouys (sonic detectors) and torpedoes in an anti-submarine role. They also extend the range of the ship's radar capabilities. The Navy's SH-60F is carrier-based. The HH-60H, also aboard carriers and ashore, is used for search and rescue (SAR) missions. By 2015, the only models of Seahawk in the Navy will be the MH-60S and the MH-60R. Some versions, such as the Air Force's MH-60 G Pave Hawk and the Coast Guard's HH-60J Jayhawk , are equipped with a rescue hoist with a 250 foot (75 meter) cable that has a 600 pound (270 kg) lift capability, and a retractable in-flight refueling probe.
