Office of Geographic Information As part of the Governor’s Office for Technology, the Office of Geographic Information (OGI) is responsible for encouraging, coordinating, and implementing GIS programs within the Commonwealth of Kentucky. OGI works with both state and local government, and serves as a liaison to federal mapping agencies. Activities include strategic planning, project management, technical and administrative support, dissemination of spatial data, education and training, research, and policy development. OGI also provides staffing and technical assistance for Kentucky’s Geographic Information Advisory Council (GIAC). KY GEO120
To increase the awareness of GIS use throughout Kentucky, the Office of Geographic Information (OGI) will be publishing profiles of GIS activities occurring within the Commonwealth. We plan to highlight Kentucky's 120 counties, including state and/or local organizations, as we recognize the benefits and implications of GIS across the state. Geo120 profiles will be published on the website, including a map with hyperlinks to individual locations/counties. Additionally, OGI and the Governor's Office for Technology will be producing articles for the news section on Kentucky.gov and for Techlines, a state government technology e-newsletter and website.

Passports of Somalia For Sale
Those visiting Kenya can buy very authentic-looking passports from Somalia , a country that has lacked a central government since 1991. The justification for selling the passports is unique, "We are doing nothing wrong, we are just playing the role of a Somali government now that there isn't one in our country. Obviously there should be someone offering this service to Somalis."

Aims and Scope:
The aim of this interdisciplinary and international journal is to provide a forum for the exchange of original ideas, techniques, approaches and experiences in the rapidly growing field of geographical information systems (GIS). It is intended to interest those who design, implement and use systems for monitoring, planning and policy-making. Published research covers applications of GIS in natural resources, social, systems, and the built environment, and developments in computer science, cartography, surveying, geography and engineering in both developed and developing countries.

170. Webring Of Imaginary Countries - Welcome
Connects sites of people who own any kind of imaginary geographic entity cities, islands, countries, federations of countries, planets and star systems.
http://www.persis.nl/maratidar/webring.html
Welcome to the Webring of Imaginary Countries
This is the Homepage of the Webring of Imaginary Countries . This ring connects sites of people who own an imaginary country. The definition of "country" is to be understood in all possible variations of geographic entity, such as:
  • cities
  • islands
  • countries
  • federations of countries
  • planets and star systems and so on
The Webring also welcomes sites dealing with other aspects of fictious geography, such as flags and weaponry, and even countries which claim to be real (with or without territory, e.g. the Sovereign Military Order of Malta). If you want to know more about Geo Fiction in general, you can visit the site of The Dutch Geo Fiction Association (English version available). This is a platform for geo fiction enthusiasts to meet each other (it is a 'real life' club), exchange ideas about geos (in most cases imaginary countries) and about the geo fiction hobby in general. (While the owner of this site is a member of the Dutch Geofiction Association, this site is not a publication of, nor has been approved by, the Association. The same is true for this webring.)

GIS Lab Research
Our research reflects the Lab’s mandate to develop innovative, interdisciplinary uses of GIS. Our research activities promote the management and analysis of spatial information. These activities are described in detail here GIS Education at Queen's At the undergraduate level, students have four options in Geographic Information Management Studies (GIMS) to choose from: GIMS medial degree (4 yrs) GIMS general degree (3 yrs) GIMS minor degree (5 courses) GIMS courses for credit The GIMS programs and courses are describe in more detail at the GIMS website. The new ''minor'' degree program in GIMS After two years of planning, the GIMS program has been extended to include a major/minor degree. This new degree will make it much easier for students in all faculties to take advantage of the GIMS courses while maintaining "major" status in their choice of field. We expect widespread interest in this option from students in computer, health, life, engineering and physical science as well as increased enrolment from the arts in disciplines such as film studies, sociology and classics. For details of this new programme visit the GIMS webpage.

The ability to manipulate spatial data into different forms and to extract additional meaning from them is at the root of current interests in GIS technology" -Goodchild The Legislative Coordinating Commission's Geographic Information Services is the repository of statewide boundary information for legislative use. The office maintains a map library of spatial information, provided by the Census Bureau and a host of Minnesota State agencies, that can be integrated with many sources of information to produce maps and reports of pertinent information for legislators and legislative staff. Such information includes demographics, elections, natural resources and infrastructure to name a few. LCC-GIS also provides the Legislature with the means to do Redistricting once every 10 years in conjunction with the Census. The Redistricting process uses many map layer data sets which LCC-GIS provides and assists in maintaining.
