Photo by George Pallas, July 2000 The Laboratory of Transplantation Immunology is an area brimming with activity. Under the direction of James Talmadge, Ph.D., the faculty, members and fellows in the laboratory, Drs. Lee Mosley, Vladimir Pisarev, Simon Robinson and Rakesh Singh are involved in research emphasizing molecular immunology, human immunology, vaccines, metastasis, gene therapy, and cytokine biology. At present, the Laboratory of Transplantation Immunology is involved in studying the mechanism of immunologic reconstitution following stem cell transplantation. This includes studies on the molecular reconstitution of cytokines, cellular phenotypes and function and the role of death proteins in peripheral tolerance following transplantation. The Laboratory also focuses on the effects of product manipulation and the role of cytokines, cell adhesion molecules, chemokines, and lymphokines in hematopoietic stem cell mobilization.

164. Program In Human Gene Therapy
Facilitates the application of basic and preclinical research to the treatment of human disease through vector development and gene discovery and characterization.
http://medicine.ucsd.edu/gt/index.html
THE CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR MEDICINE - EAST building Located in the UCSD School of Medicine and home to the Program in Human Gene Therapy Welcome to the UCSD School of Medicine's Program in Human Gene Therapy. Our goals are to:
  • Catalyze basic research into the genetics and cell biology of gene transfer
  • Facilitate the application of basic and pre-clinical research to the treatment of human disease
The Program includes a Vector Development core laboratory . Functions include:
  • The preparation of research-grade gene transfer materials, including the production of retroviral, adenoviral, adeno-associated and herpes viral vectors
  • Assistance at all stages of vector development, including advice on the design of vector constructs, plasmid preparation, development of producer cells, and production of virus.
The production of clinical-grade vectors for human studies is now provided by Molecular Medicine, LLC. Molecular Medicine, LLC is a joint venture between The University of California, San Diego and Boehringer Mannheim (Roche). In addition the Program is proud to sponsor the Gene Therapy Seminar Series.
