ISBN: 0871564068
352 pages
Price: $16.95 paperback This pathfinding collection shows how the health of the planet is inextricably linked to the psychological health of humanity, individually and collectively. As such, it is sure to become a definitive work for the burgeoning ecopsychology movement, which is both a new beginning for environmentalism and a revolution in modern psychology. Collected here are writings from the premier psychotherapists, thinkers, and eco-activists working in the field, including:
  • James Hillman, world-renowned Jungian analyst, relating the "one core issue for all psychology" - the nature and limits of human identity - to the condition of the planet

Shamanism, shamanic counseling and lightwork are just some of the ancient connectionsto ecopsychology and ecotherapy. SHAMANISM AND ecopsychology.
http://www.align.org/ecopsychology.htm
For thousands of years, people all over the world have depended on shamans for help in healing their bodies and spirits for better health and happiness. This same tradition lives on today and is available to you for your personal healing and spiritual growth. If your life isn't working or you feel "stuck," perhaps it's time to journey beyond the visible into a non-ordinary reality to gain insight and address the cause. Metaphor -Ecopsychology Wheels of Conditions ADD/Dyslexia ... Return to Home S HAMANISM AND ECOPSYCHOLOGY uch of Shamanic Counseling today is linked to the field of ecopsychology or ecotherapy which is the weave of therapeutic intervention with the natural world. It seems as the Western world progresses in its development, we return more to the ancient ways of the shamans. These ways of shamanic healing go back thousands of years. This deep lineage not only brings a huge set of "therapies" to the healing, but also awakens forgotten abilities in the collective unconsciousness of each of us. Ecopsychology allows us to explain some of the aspects of ancient healing in modern terms.

Moving from an extractive economy and culture in a world dominated by multi-national corporations
to
an age of ecological values and goals and a culture and way of life beneficial and benign to the Earth
We need to change from a culture/society that supports life styles of seeking profit and buying "things"patterns of behavior that damage the Earthto a culture that fosters life styles devoted to rehabilitating, supporting and maintaining the health of the Earth and its many life forms. Which would be the happier, more fulfilling life style? As Thomas Berry has pointed out we are at a special point in history in which we must carry out "deep cultural therapy" and create a culture and way of life that is benign and beneficial to the Earth. Berry calls the new age we are entering the Ecozoic era and he says that the effort to create this new era is "the great work" of our time. [See Berry's book, "The Great Work: Our Way Into The Future".]
EcoPsychology is the field of knowledge and practice that concerns our relationship with the Earth and natural world. On this page, we will share material that relates to this field and to the "practice" of carrying out The Great Work required of us at this time in history.

Cultural Ecopsychology: Issues of Displacement and the Urban African Community Greetings! This site shares sections of my thesis completed in August 2000 as part of the requirements for my MA in Cultural Ecopsychology from Prescott College. Many of the ideas present are not comprehensive of my beliefs and the context of application. However this work was divinely inspired and, I feel, is important to share. Thank you for taking the time to read this and feel free to contact me with any comments. Jeanine M. Canty Acknowledgements About the Author Introduction ... Definition of Key Terms last updated:

What is ecopsychology?
Eco-activism at some stage comes up against psychological questions like: Why are most people not eco-activists? Why do we (most of us) live a consumerist lifestyle which we know is unsustainable and self-destructive? Why do we tolerate the intolerable? How can we bring joy and satisfaction to our work?
The Gathering
Our intention is to make an event which is sustainable participants rather than as performers, offering their skills in exchange with others. It is open to anyone to offer a workshop, seminar or other event, probably running in parallel with other offerings, and people can participate as they choose.
Some elements which we as organisers are building in: a Dream Matrix each morning to share the voyages of the night. A daily meeting of the whole Gathering.

ecopsychology DEEP ECOLOGY These two movements seem very closely related tome; in fact, I have trouble distinguishing between them. ecopsychology.
http://www.mollyyoungbrown.com/ecopsychology.htm
In the opening years of the 21st century, we face enormous challenges. We can no longer afford the luxury of pursuing various intellectual and vocational disciplines apart from environmental and social realities. We must reform our economy and way of life towards a life sustaining society. Now all education must include ecological education, and all psychology, ecopsychology. ECOLITERACY
Ecological literacy might be called "ecowisdom" because it encompasses such a broad array of understandings, knowledge, attitudes, and experience. I began using the term “ecoliteracy” to indicate the learning we need to seek in all dimensions of human life: intellectual, psychological, somatic, social, and spiritual. As someone developing ecoliteracy, I aspire to the following capacities:
  • awareness of our interconnectedness and kinship with all life a sense of wonder and gratitude for the world a strong sense of physical and spiritual connection to land and place a widening of identification beyond the individual ego to the "ecological self"

74. Ecopsychology: Finding One’s Place In The Circle Of Life
ecopsychology Finding one’s place in the circle of life. By Robin R. Rathbun.Remember learning to ride a bicycle? Thus, ecopsychology is not just theory.
http://www.nexuspub.com/articles/1999/sept99/Ecopsyc.htm
Colorado's Holistic Journal
By Robin R. Rathbun Remember learning to ride a bicycle? After a few wobbly starts and unexpected tumbles, it worked. Exhilarating! That "I did it" is experiential learning, the heart of discovery. When we finally figure it out for ourselves, we really Get It, and we don't forget it. Bring to mind an experience in nature; something that either happened when you were a child, like your first camping adventure, or a moment of tremendous awe, like seeing the Grand Canyon or the ocean for the first time. Can you remember the smells? How you felt? The colors around you? Through a variety of experiences like wilderness quests, eco pilgrimages and sacred passage retreats, people are given time to be in nature, to simply be with the world. As Elias Amidon, co-director of the Boulder Institute for Nature and the Human Spirit, says, "The word 'ecopsychology' has an academic ring to it, but it is, in fact, something very personal and intimate. It's about our sense of belonging—or not belonging—on this earth." Ecopsychology, however, is more than just a new take on the environmental movement, although the roots began growing from ideas expressed by Rachel Carson, John Muir and Albert Schweitzer. Ecopsychology may, in fact, have been started in the mid-'70s by a Norwegian philosopher named Arne Naess who looked at ecology in an ethical framework. Rather than protecting the earth's resources for our future gain, i.e. being good "stewards" for the planet, he suggested that we should save the planet because of a reverence for life, all living beings. This became known as "deep ecology."

ECOPSYCHOLOGY
My favorite Ecopsychology Quotes-
-David Abram
Key insight of ecofeminism:
4 TASKS OF ECOPSYCHOLOGY-
as defined by Andy Fischer in Radical Ecopsychology The Psychological Task - to acknowledge and betther understand the human- nature relationship as relationship.
The Philosophical Task - to place psyche (soul/mind) back into the Natural world. Heal the split.
The Practical Task - to develop therapeutic and recollective practices toward an ecological society.
The Critical Task - to engage in ecopsychologically based criticism. Note- I am attracted to the philosophical task, because I see the role of poetry and performance in this mission. I believe we need to be rewoven back into our connectedness in a poetic, inviting, and beautiful way. We need the grace and magic of the arts for this mission.
Check out Audette's Summary of the Key Points of Ecopsychology

Thoughts in the vein of Solutions: - Experiential embodied education - Anything encouraging and cultivating feelings and experiences of connectedness. That which illuminates context, root causes, or promoting alternative ways of seeing, investing, and being.

In this light, many environmental groups may actually be exploiting our emotional condition our fear, guilt, and so forth. quoting Joanna Macy in bits: Our emotional responses are appropriately complex: fear; dread, or terror before the forces presently threatening life on earth; anger and rage at having to live under such threat; guilt for being "implicated in this catastrophe"; and, above all, sorrow a "sadness beyond telling" that arises from confronting "so vast and final a loss as this." p. 13
