Field Operations Branches The DWFOBs (see office locations and contact information and map of districts ) are responsible for the enforcement of the federal and California Safe Drinking Water Acts (SDWAs) and the regulatory oversight of ~8,700 public water systems to assure the delivery of safe drinking water to all Californians. DWFOB activities include field inspections of water systems, issuance of operating permits, reviewing plans and specifications for new facilities, taking enforcement actions for non-compliance with laws and regulations, and reviewing water quality monitoring results, and supporting and promoting water system security .
