Darwin and his followers ignored these difficulties, however, and the modern synthesis excluded embryology entirely. Only in the past twenty years, with the rise of developmental genetics, has comparative embryology attracted significant interest from evolutionary biologists. One result of this renewed interest has been the recognition that patterns of early development do not fit the Procrustean bed of recapitulationism.

Developmental Biology
Overview
The Division of Developmental Biology at Children's Hospital Research Foundation of Cincinnati strives to maintain outstanding basic research and training programs regarding the biological bases of health, disease, and treatment in children. The goal of our research activities is to uncover the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying both normal and abnormal mammalian development. In essence, we are seeking to understand the basic processes that are required for embryogenesis and fetal maturation, how these processes might go awry, and how such aberrations can be prevented or corrected. Our specific research functions include:
  • Generating new knowledge concerning fundamental molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in normal mammalian development, as well as elucidating disorders that either arise from abnormal development or occur within a developmental setting Bringing emerging technologies to bear on research activities within the medical center and translating new knowledge into novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for the care of children Fostering collaborative research between clinical and basic scientists

http://www.jl-sciedit.com
Wyatt and Lauerman offer confidential scientific English editing, proofreading, copyediting, writing, rewriting, and editorial services for manuscripts, research articles, grant applications, reviews and proposals, journal articles written by academic and industrial scientists in the lifesciences including all biological and biomedical sciences such as biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry, developmental biology, molecular biology, marine biology, genetics, molecular genetics, immunology, microbiology, and oceanography. Home Specialties Security Rates and Billing Our goal is to improve the writing of scientific documents so that ideas and data are presented clearly and in a grammatically correct, cohesive, and easily readable format. Well-written documents allow readers to focus on the scientific merit of a project rather than on writing skills.
Editors, Lynn Lauerman and Jacqueline Wyatt, are Ph.D. scientists with considerable experience in writing and editing of manuscripts submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Each editor has written grant proposals and served as a reviewer for journal articles and grant proposals.
Clients have included biotechnology companies, newspapers, and publishing companies.

Advance praise: ‘It looked so intriguing that I started reading it on the way home. Luckily for me, the bus was late… It is really fascinating.’ Noam Chomsky, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Paperback ( Hardback Imaginal Discs Lewis I. Held Jr Examines the genetic circuitry of the ‘fruit fly’, tackling the hows and the whys behind fly development. ' … figures and their legends … packed full of more information than most text books. The appendices, especially the compendia of genes affecting particular processes are useful. Imaginal Discs would be a useful read for anyone interested in pattern formation generally, and should be required for workers in Drosophila patterning.'
