Demography
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Demography is the study of human populations dynamics . It encompasses the study of the size, structure and distribution of populations, and how populations change over time due to births, deaths, migration and ageing . Demographic analysis can relate to whole societies or to groups defined by criteria such as education, nationality, religion and ethnicity. Data and methods
Demography relies on the use of large amounts of data, including census returns and records of births, marriages and deaths. The earliest modern census was carried out in Britain in . See also Demographic statistics In many countries, particularly in the third world, reliable demographic data are still difficult to obtain. For example, during the 1980s the population of Nigeria was widely estimated to be around 110 million, before it was established to be as little as 89 million (without adjustment for undercounting) in a census carried out in 1991.

With perhaps threequarters of Arabs living under a Palestinian state, Arab demography would no longer be a threat to Jewish demographic hegemony in Israel.
    http://www.popcouncil.org/mediacenter/newsreleases/pdr900.html
From the September 2000 Population and Development Review For Immediate Release: October 26, 2000 Fertility as a Political Weapon
in the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict Today, violent clashes between Palestinians and Israelis dominate the headlines. But in the long run, demographic growth could be the Palestinians' most potent weapon, notes an article in the latest issue of Population and Development Review , a peer-reviewed journal published by the Population Council. The article, by French demographer Philippe Fargues, explains the region's population dynamics as a contest between Jewish immigration and Palestinian fertility. With natural population growth working to their advantage, the Arabs are assured of soon becoming a demographic majority in what is now Israel and the West Bank and Gaza, he concludes. Jewish immigration At the end of World War I, a small Jewish nucleus of about 60,000 people lived in Palestine. During the following 30 years (1918-48), the Jewish population grew largely because of migrations from Europe, a region of low fertility. As a result, average Jewish fertility in Palestine dropped at a sharper rate than would have occurred in the absence of migration. The extremely high rate of overall population growth (averaging 7.94 percent per year in 1918-48), because of the decisive migratory component, paradoxically brought about the rapid decline in the rate of natural increase. By 1939, the crude birth rate of the Jewish population in Palestine had dropped to 23 per thousand per year, a level similar to the rate prevailing in Europe at the same period.

It is a nation of immigrants and a multi-religious, multi-cultural and multi-linguistic society. There are three main ethnic, religious and linguistic groups and a dozen smaller groups. The Ngalung - often called Drukpas - are the ruling group who control the monarchy and the government and dominate the economy. King and all the high Government Officials belong to this politically and economically dominant ethnic group. They live in the north-western region, speak Dzonkha language and wear robe like dresses. They migrated from Tibet. They are called Drukpas as they follow the Drukpa Kargyupa school of Mahayana Buddhism.
