On this page you will find bizarre reports of strange creatures observed in Florida. Scroll down and read how Florida is stranger than you think!! THE MOST FREQUENTLY REPORTED STRANGE CREATURE IN FLORIDA, IS THE SKUNK APE.
THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF SKUNK APE REPORTS:
NOVEMBER 25, 1997, COLLIER COUNTY,FLORIDA BIGFOOT REPORT.

"I didn't get a good look at it" explained Steve, "It was pretty quick to be so big, by the time I saw it, it was well on its way into the bush." Steve said that it definetly was some kind of ape and estimate the animal's size to be 600 pounds and seven feet tall. It appeared to have very dark fur all over. The witness did not get a look at the face, but thought that he had seen a set of eyes and very dark face. Steve's wife was in the car and did not see the creature. There was no report filed with the authorities.

Cryptozoologists: An Endangered Species
By Paul Mccarthy Author: Paul McCarthy
Date: January 11, 1993 Researchers who stalk rare or fantastic creatures must endure the scorn of colleagues and funding agencies Physical anthropologist Grover Krantz sometimes fantasizes about flying his ultra-light aircraft over the Pacific Northwest on a warm spring day. Controls in one hand and an infrared heat detector in the other, Krantz scans the thawing ground-cover in search of the telltale heat of a rotting Bigfoot carcass. Bagging a body would be the ultimate evidence in a decades-old quest that has left the Washington State University professor an authority on Bigfoot, thought by some to be a surviving Pleistocene ape, Gigantopithecus blacki. Krantz is a member of a small band of scientists called cryptozoologists, who stalk previously undescribedand, some would say, nonexistentanimals. This includes new species of lizards, monkeys, and other ho-hum creatures, but also beasts of mythic proportion: Consider the Loch Ness Monster, a giant octopus with tentacles more than 100 feet long; or Mokele-Mbembe, a dinosaur-like critter and purported denizen of a 50,000-square- mile swamp in the People's Republic of the Congo. The term "cryptozoology" was coined in the late 1950s by French zoologist Bernard Heuvelmans to describe the study of unverified animals. The purpose of the field, says J. Richard Greenwell, secretary of the Tucson, Ariz.-based International Society of Cryptozoology (ISC), is to determine if certain reported species exist and, if so, to "add them to our zoological inventories." Cryptozoologists obtain their leads from sighting reports, explorers' accounts, old manuscripts, archeological artifacts, artwork, and folklore, says Greenwell. Some society members have actually found previously undescribed creatures (see story on page 5).

The Eltanin Enigma On the Nature of Cryptozoology and Science Ben S. Roesch I Fortean Times 128 , Loren Coleman criticized some of my arguments to this regard. I would like to take this opportunity to expound on these arguments, and respond to some of Coleman's criticisms. T he "old view" of science to which Coleman sees me cling – a view apparently "discarded by historians and philosophers of science decades ago" – is nothing less than the scientific method. Science has and will always require solid falsifiable hypotheses, experimental work, systematically gathered evidence, and rational deduction and induction. This approach is very much alive, and a glance at any scientific journal will show it is still of paramount importance. To suggest that the scientific method is out of date, but still defend cryptozoology as a science, makes little sense. P lainly, cryptozoology doesn't live up to the scientific method. Science relies heavily on falsifiable hypotheses – hypotheses that can be tested and potentially shown to be false. If alternative hypotheses are suggested and revealed to be false through experimental research, then the original hypothesis is strengthened. When trying to incorporate falsifiable hypotheses, cryptozoologists run into problems. Seemingly testable hypotheses such as "bigfoot exists" or "if the Loch Ness monster exists, we can find it" are too general and too weak to provide a testable and falsifiable base. For example, there is good evidence showing that the giant shark

Cryptozoology
Belief in legendary creatures like Bigfoot, Yeti (a.k.a. the Abominable Snowman), and the Loch Ness Monster provides the basis for a field of paranormal research called cryptozoology ("the study of hidden animals"). The term is usually used by proponents rather than skeptics. Unfortunately evidence for the existence of such creatures is scant, consisting of dubious photographs, eyewitness reports, and alleged traces such as footprints. Experience shows that hoaxes and misperceptions (such as mistaking a line of swimming otters for a serpentine lake creature) are responsible for many "sightings." Furthermore, photos, films, and trace evidence not only can be faked but often have been. For example, the classic photograph of "Nessie," the fabled Loch Ness Monster, was controversial from its origin in 1934 until (six decades later) researchers learned the photo had been made by photographing a small model. Bigfoot tracks have been faked by pranksters who carved wooden monster feet, strapped them to their shoes, and walked over soft ground with exaggerated strides. Return to Skeptiseum home.

the international zoological catalogues. This may also include species from the fossil records such as dinosaurs, reptiles, fish, mammals, and even birds that were thought long extinct, which may in fact still survive in remote geographical locations around the world. These animal species may include unidentified primates and unknown species of human beings that have successfully hidden themselves away in remote wild places around the world. A cryptid is any unknown living animal.

    http://anomalyinfo.com/articles/ga00008.shtml
C ryptozoology T he belief in unknown and new animals has existed for a very long time, as evidenced by mankind's fascination with dragons, unicorns, and dinosaurs. The serious study of the fauna of earth, "Zoology" as it came to be known, was first established in the 1500's, and has since catalogued all familiar and quite a few unfamiliar animals on our planet.
For the most part, Zoology started off with the large creatures, and worked its way down: large obvious lifeforms like humans, lions, and whales were easiest to study and classify quickly. As the study continued, Zoology began to focus its hunt for new species more and more on smaller and smaller animals as it became popular belief that all large species had already been found and identified. At present, the majority of the Zoological efforts to locate and identify new species is concentrated in two ways: 1) the investigation of habitats not yet fully explored by man (rain forests, the oceans), and 2) study of tiny lifeforms that have a huge variety that has not yet been fully catalogued (insects and microscopic lifeforms).
Here enters Cryptozoology , literally translated as "the study of hidden and unknown life." Cryptozoology is best seen as a sub-group of Zoology. While, like Zoology, it is interested in the study of biological lifeforms, Cryotozoology differs in that it is generally not interested in studying species that have already been identified, nor is it interested in small animal lifeforms; what Cryptozoologists study, research, and investigate is the evidence for a variety of large animals that are either presently scientifically unknown or presumed extinct.

    Cryptozoology
Cryptozoology is the study of rumored or mythological animals that are presumed by many to exist, but for which proof does not yet exist. Those who study these as-yet undiscovered animals hold that such animals do exist, and are either rare, or once existed but have become extinct . Those who search for such animals are called cryptozoologists Scientists have shown that some creatures of mythology , legend or local folklore were rooted in a real animal or phenomenon. Thus, cryptozoologists hold that people should be open to the possibility that many more such animals exist. The invention of the term is usually attributed to the zoologist Bernard Heuvelmans. The hypothetical creatures involved are referred to by some with the slang term of cryptid . Some cryptozoologists align themselves with a more scientifically rigorous field like zoology , while others tend toward an anthropological slant or even forteana . The fringes of cryptozoology are considered pseudoscience by mainstream biologists, but the general idea of searching for new animals is a legitimate area of biology. Thus cryptozoologists searching for dragons would be considered on the lunatic fringe; those searching for animals now considered very unlikely to exist such as Bigfoot are considered fringe scientists.

    Cryptozoology
    All Creatures Great and Fabricated
Throughout history, a number of creatures have entered the stuff of legend while themselves being (apparently) non-existent; stories and accounts of the creatures have been passed from generation to generation while proof and evidence have not. Occasionally, a photograph, film or trail will be found that points to the creature being real, but many times these rock-solid proofs crumble like sand in the harsh light of inquiry. They are, in many ways, science's last poetry.
