Mandate and Membership of the IPCC Recognizing the problem of potential global climate change, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) established the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 1988. It is open to all members of the
UN and WMO. The role of the IPCC is to assess on a comprehensive, objective, open and transparent basis the scientific, technical and socio-economic information relevant to understanding the scientific basis of risk of human-induced climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation. The IPCC does not carry out research nor does it monitor climate related data or other relevant parameters. It bases its assessment mainly on peer reviewed and published scientific/technical literature. Its role, organisation, participation and general procedures are laid down in the "

DIE OFF
"If a path to the better there be, it begins with a full look at the worst."
Thomas Hardy Petroleum geologists have known for 50 years that global oil production would "peak" and begin its inevitable decline within a decade of the year 2000. Moreover, no renewable energy systems have the potential to generate more than a fraction of the power now being generated by fossil fuels. In short, the transition to declining energy availability signals a transition in civilization as we know it. Read the entire synopsis now! Welcome to MarClim.
MarClim is a new major four-year multi-partner British and Irish project led by the Marine Biological Association in collaboration with Plymouth Marine Laboratory, The Scottish Association for Marine Science, The University of Plymouth and University College Cork. The aim of MarClim is to assess and forecast the influence of climatic change on marine biodiversity in Britain and Ireland using long term and current data on intertidal rocky shore indicator species. MarClim is currently the only government-funded project addressing climate change in the marine environment in the UK. Our pages detail the activities of our project and provide general information on climate change issues. Click here to explore the MarClim Web site You are visitor number since January 26th 2003
