The Journal of Materials Chemistry is an interdisciplinary Journal covering all aspects of Materials Chemistry. Papers cover the fabrication, properties and applications of materials, including synthesis, structural characterisation and modelling.
Issue 11 cover
The cover picture shows various polymeric materials that have been synthesised or processed in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO ). Polymer particles of high molecular weight and excellent morphology are shown, as well as biodegradable polymer scaffolds, which can be used as cell supports for tissue growth. These pictures highlight that scCO can be used to prepare exciting new materials. Materials processing in supercritical carbon dioxide: surfactants, polymers and biomaterials

Developed in 1980, The DENDRAL Project delt with analysis of molecular structure in organic chemistry. The chemical and physical properties of compounds are determined not just by their constituent atoms, but by the arrangement of these atoms as well. The CONGEN program implements the general (acyclic and cyclic) generation algorithm in a system that allows a chemist to constrain its enumeration in a variety of ways.

In Earth's ecosphere, coronene is considered a pollutant, but this polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbon redeems itself as an ultraviolet phosphor for charge-coupled devices (CCDs). Coronene-coated CCDs on the Hubble Space Telescope provide valuable information about molecules in outer space. Coronene has also been observed on the surface of Saturn's moon Titan.
