"The School of Chemical Engineering is part of the Division of Engineering at Edinburgh University . It is a medium sized chemical engineering school with a strong emphasis on both teaching and research. We provide a friendly environment for learning with guidance and pastoral care being offered throughout the course. Our strategy in teaching is to commence with the scientific principles underpinning the practice of chemical engineering and to then show how these are applied in solving engineering problems. There is a structured programme of laboratory work and works visits to support the lecture material and design teaching. Group design exercises are used throughout the degree programme to apply the taught theory. In the 1998 Scottish Teaching Quality Assessment (TQA) we obtained the highest number of top scores for teaching observation and were commended on the quality of our pastoral care. We hope that this site will answer many of your questions about Chemical Engineering at Edinburgh, but please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further queries or if you wish to visit us." Dr John Christy, Head of School

22. The History Of Chemical Engineering
Contains an introduction to chemical engineering and a brief history of the profession.
http://www.cems.umn.edu/~aiche_ug/history/h_intro.html
Welcome to our Our goal is to bring you a history of chemical engineering that encompasses its conceptual origins in Great Britain , subsequent struggle for survival in the United States , and concludes with a cornucopia of contributions made in this Century. Along the way, many tables and figures help illustrate the growth and change in the chemical industry , the chemical engineering profession , and its educational infrastructure Some questions we hope to examine include What is chemical engineering How, and why, did chemical engineering develop What obstacles did the profession face and overcome What contributions have chemical engineers made How has the profession grown and changed over the last Century While the following documents cover a fair amount of ground, it is important to keep in mind that this is only a brief tour of this topic which leaves many important events untouched . If you find our short history interesting and informative we hope you will continue to explore the subject , as there are many excellent sources available . In any case, we hope to hear your

Graduate students in chemical engineering at Caltech join a community of scientistswith a worldwide reputation for academic and research excellence.
http://www.che.caltech.edu/
Caltech . What makes it so special? Many cite the Institute's eminent faculty and alumni, which include 22 Nobel laureates; its prodigious output of scientific contributions; and its unflagging quest for quality research. Others note Caltech's informal atmosphere, where "scientists run the place" unencumbered by administrative red tape and where the interaction between faculty members and students is high. Graduate students in Chemical Engineering at Caltech join a community of scientists with a worldwide reputation for academic and research excellence. As a member of this elite community, you will have the opportunity to explore research interests, share ideas, and discuss new scientific directions with leaders in their fields not only in chemical engineering but also in biology, chemistry, engineering, and other sciences. The Institute's unique organization facilitates this access to experts across divisions. Unlike many larger universities and research centers, Caltech erects no barriers administrative or otherwise to discourage cooperative research among scientists in various disciplines. Chemical engineering faculty members and students work jointly with research groups in electrical, mechanical, and environmental engineering, biology, and chemistry. Interested? You can find
