Articles on the development of Japanese ceramics, and on Arita and Hagi ware
http://www.jgc.co.jp/waza/b1_pottery/
Japan has a long history of pottery and there was already pottery called "Doki" (earthenware) from ancient times, about 7,000-8,000 years ago. However, it is considered to be in the Heian period (A.C. 794-1191) that potters first began to glaze pottery in today's sense and to fire pottery at considerably high temperatures. Since then, pottery has captivated the Japanese heart for over 1,000 years.
We hope the following story will serve to deepen your understanding of Japan and the Japanese. History of Irs Development in Japan Technical Approach to Pottery

154. Tim Gee Ceramics Thrown Translucent Porcelain
Exhibiting the work of British potter, Tim Gee. Thrown translucent porcelain.
http://www.timgeeceramics.co.uk
Tim Gee Ceramics Thrown highly translucent porcelain vessels, produced in my studio in the South West of England. My work is an exploration of translucency within the context of thrown vessels. I use a shellac resist technique, applying the shellac with various Chinese and hand made brushes and then sponging away the surface to vary the wall thickness. This adds texture to the surface of the vessel and at the same time allows interior light and colour to permeate and activate the walls casting shadows and softening the boundary between the interior and exterior.
