Laboratory Exercises
Department of Biochemistry
University of Nebraska The exercises developed for Biochemistry 321 were funded by a grant (No. DUE 9550791) from the National Science Foundation Please feel free to take one or all of the exercises and try them in your class. We assume that instructors will be familiar with laboratory safety; the developers of these exercises cannot assume liability arising from these exercises. If you find any errors, please contact me (markwell@unl.edu) and I will see that corrections are made. If you want to make any suggestions for changes, please do so; I will be more than happy to identify individuals who improve our collection. If you have any questions about the exercises, contact one of us: These exercises are designed to be implemented in our teaching labs in the Beadle Center. They are designed for use by 24 students, four on each side of a lab bench. The exercises are written to be carried out by pairs of students; some exercises are intended to involve cooperation by both pair of students on one side of a lab bench. Some of the exercises are meant to involve collaborative learning and a greater extent of student freedom than usual in teaching laboratories. The schedule starts the first week with a quick exercise on the determination of chlorophylls a and b with a spectrophotometer. The last three periods of our fifteen week semester are devoted to independent student projects.

A multidisciplinary scientific forum on cellular function 'Cellular Physiology and Biochemistry' is a multidisciplinary scientific forum dedicated to advancing the frontiers of basic cellular research. It addresses scientists from both the physiological and biochemical disciplines as well as related fields such as molecular biology, pathophysiology, pathobiochemistry and cellular pharmacology. Original papers and invited reviews on the mechanisms of intracellular transmission, cellular metabolism, cell growth and differentiation, ion channels and carriers, and the maintenance, regulation and disturbances of cell volume are presented. Appearing bimonthly under peer review, 'Cellular Physiology and Biochemistry' takes an active role in the concerted international effort to unravel the mechanisms of cellular function. Invitation for Papers Only original papers written in English will be considered. Manuscripts should be sent to:
