Beekeeping in Africa Westafrican honeybees at the entrance of the hive. African bees are very productive but many races are very aggressive as well.
Photo: Ole Hertz In the African climate the bees can survive in the open even if the swarm is hanging from a branch of a big tree. There are more races of honeybees. Africa is the largest area where Apis mellifera original lived. The borderlines between the different races are not well known. Loghives hanging from a tree in Tanzania Beekeeping has a very long tradition in Africa.

Welcome! We are a small friendly association who meet on a regular basis - in the spring summer and autumn, at our Apiary at the junction of Stockdove Way and Argyle Road, in Perivale, Middx.. In the Spring, Summer and Autumn, our meetings are most Saturday Afternoons, at 2:30 pm till about 5pm. The apiary site is very basic and without amenities (there are no toilets!). Weather permitting we will open a hive to show visitors the goings on inside. Recommended wear includes long trousers and a long sleeved shirt or blouse - avoid red or blue, which the bees dislike, and wool, as they get tangled up in this. Wear shoes and socks in preference to sandals, but wellies are best. Bring some rubber gloves, if you can, to protect hands and fingers from stings. We will lend you a bee keeper's veil to protect you when you go to the hives. During the winter, we meet at the Litton Local Nature Reserve, Oldfield Lane South, Greenford Middx Our meetings the third Saturday of each month, at 3pm. Our winter programme includes microscopy, and general background to beekeeping. If you are planning to visit us, please make

THE BEEKEEPING PAGE
Welcome to the home page of Michael Mordenti from Lords Valley, PA located 75 miles N.W of NYC . I have been a hobbyist Beekeeper for 9 years (and still learning) I manage 9-11 beehives depending on the time of ( year ) . Hope to add more soon. I produce and pack raw spring and fall wildflower honey, pollen, propolis and beeswax from the wildflowers located here in the Pocono Mts. I also make beeswax candles and pack other products of the hive which are sold locally and given away to family and friends as gifts. For more information on these products feel free to email me at the address on the bottom of this page, or through my guest book. I created this web page to make more people aware of beekeeping, pollination and the benefits of pollen, propolis and raw unprocessed honey, compaired to the highly heated and highly filtered (only to look good honey you see on the supermarket shelves), this kind of treatment filters out some of the nutritional value and most of the pollen out of the honey. A QUOTE "the secret of my health is applying honey on the inside and oil outside."
