Local Honey, Health and Allergies
By Tom Ogren
As one who makes his living by writing about allergies and asthma I am often asked about the potential health benefits of using local honey.
Honey contains bits and pieces of pollen and honey, and as an immune system booster, it is quite powerful.

ADRIAN M. WENNER
The Elusive Honey Bee Dance "Language" Hypothesis
In the mid-1930s, Karl von Frisch proposed the equivalent of an odor-search hypothesis for honey bee recruitment to food sources. A decade later he switched to the equivalent of a "dance language" hypothesis (though he apparently did not consider his conclusions as hypotheses in either case). . . . PLANS
5 Frame Nuc Beehive
A nuc hive has all the features of a standard 10 frame hive except on a reduced scale. The nuc hive is used for making splits, swarm control, queen introduction, pollen/nectar monitoring, to name a few. ELEMENTS OF BEEKEEPING Alternative Hive Designs The idea for this hive came about from talks with Dennis Murrell in Wyoming. The two things I have heard over and over from other TBH users has been the fact the bees can, and will, attach the comb to the sides of the hive interior when only top bars are used. . . .

Gondar Design
The Beekeeper Virginia keeps bees, or she did until the dreaded Varroa mite destroyed her three colonies. Her honey is wonderful, so is the wax if you have nice furniture and need proper beeswax furniture polish. I use the cappings to make Mead, Melomel and Ale Mead. We collect swarms in and around North West London. NOW IN ACTION AGAIN WITH A LONDON SWARM.
Collecting a Swarm.
Yesterday we collected a large swarm from Westbourne Grove. The police rang to ask if we could remove a swarm from a lamp- post. However even though we put a ladder in the car it turned out that the swarm were on a metallic bollard Not one of the very tall West London lamp posts. We completely surrounded the bollard and swarm with a white table-cloth. Using masking tape the sheet was secured under the swarm at the bottom of the post; the sheet was then gently eased up the bollard until the swarm (all but 200 bees) were in the sheet which was then put into a wooden box. The wooden box was then sealed, put in the car. The swarm now occupies a hive at the bottom of the garden. Hopefully there will be honey for tea in the summer and Mead or Melomel to keep out the cold next winter. Now read the beekeepers account!

A major reason for generating this part of the website, which is dedicated to the study of bees, is to educate, both beekeepers and the general public about bees in general and the specific methods used by beekeepers in handling bees as well as the means whereby we can breed "better" bees.
