Vienna, Austria - February 16 - 21, 2004 Dear colleagues,
The first Wire Chamber Conference (WCC) took place in January 1978. From 1980 to 1998 it was hosted every three years. Soon the Wire Chamber Conference expanded thematically to the field of alternative technologies, which is accounted for in the change of the title to Vienna Conference on Instrumentation (VCI).
Yours,
Meinhard Regler (Chairman)

last update: 30 May 2003 The past. The RCfTA was established by a special grant from the Australian Research Council in January 1991. It closed as a formal entitiy at the end of 1999 although some of the staff and students continue within the School of Physics. The present. The members of the RCfTA continue to undertake research in theoretical astrophysics with special emphasis on the fundamental physics of stars and on the physics of non-thermal phenomena. The strategic objectives of the RCfTA are:
  • To undertake world class theoretical astrophysics research with special emphasis on areas of relevance to Australian observational astronomy. To foster close links between theoretical and observational astrophysicists nationally and internationally by such means as visitor programs, workshops, collaborative research projects and joint appointments. To provide high quality research training in theoretical astrophysics at the postgraduate and postdoctoral level.

The Astrophysics Group is one of three astrophysics research groups within the School of Physics at the University of Sydney . Together with the Astronomy Group and the Research Centre for Theoretical Astrophysics (RCfTA) they form the Institute of Astronomy
The Astrophysics group operates the Molonglo Observatory Synthesis Telescope (MOST) near Canberra, and is engaged in studies of star-forming galaxies and nebulae, active galaxies and supernova remnants. Our main research project is the Sydney University Molonglo Sky Survey (SUMSS), a sensitive radio imaging survey of the southern sky at 843 MHz. SUMSS has similar resolution and sensitivity to the northern NVSS. The survey began in 1997, and data are publicly available.
The latest SUMSS details and data.

Other research programmes use the Anglo-Australian Telescope (optical) and Australia Telescope (radio), as well as telescopes overseas and in space.
The Astrophysics Group is building a prototype for the next generation radio telescope, the Square Kilometre Array Molonglo Prototype ( SKAMP ), based on MOST. The Square Kilometre Array (

The Space Science Division at NASA Ames Research Center is dedicated to research in astrophysics, exobiology, advanced life support technologies, and planetary science. These research programs are structured around Astrobiology (the study of life in the universe and the chemical and physical forces and adaptions that influence life's origin, evolution, and destiny), and address some of the most fundamental questions pursued by science.
These questions examine the origin of life and our place in the universe. Ames is recognized as a world leader in Astrobiology. In pursuing our mission in Astrobiology, Space Science Division scientists perform pioneering basic research and technology development.
