23 - 27 June 2003 Organisers CM Dafermos ( Providence, USA ), PG LeFloch ( Palaiseau, France ), J Smoller ( Ann Arbor, USA ), and J Stewart ( Cambridge, UK in association with the Newton Institute programme entitled Nonlinear Hyperbolic Waves in Phase Dynamics and Astrophysics Supported by the European Commission, Research DG, Human Potential Programme, High Level Scientific Conference. Contract number HPCF-CT-2002-00106 Programme Participants Posters Photo
Theme of the EuroConference
Hyperbolic problems in Astrophysics and Cosmology (relativistic compressible fluid models, the Einstein Field equations of General Relativity) are particularly challenging for the applied mathematician. They are essential in order to uncover the structure and formation of the Universe. Main topics: general relativity, linear and nonlinear hyperbolic equations, Riemann solvers, well-posedness theory for the Einstein equations, black hole geometries, interaction of gravity with other force fields, etc

Astronomy Trivia Game
This is a Java Applet, so please be patient with it. It might take 30 seconds to load... Take a look at the TOP 15 OF ALL PAST MONTHS since January 2002. The rules of the trivia game are as follows:
1. You will have to answer 20 multiple choice trivia questions.
2. The first correct answer gives you 100 points.
3. Every correct answer increases the value of the next question by 100 points.
4. A wrong answer resets the value of the next question to 100.
5. You also get Bonus points for rapid responses. Initially you have 100 Bonus points.
Every second the Bonus points diminish by 5 points.
6. Try to reach the HighScore list!
And don't forget to... Submit your questions!
For bugs in the program or suggestions... mail me! If the Applet does not start (Microsoft disabled standard Applet support for the newer IE versions), you can download the Java Plug-in from Sun Microsystems here Home I'm on

The NASA Astrophysics Data System Abstract Service provides a powerful search engine for each of its four bibliographic databases:
Each database contains abstracts from articles and monographs published in the different disciplines. The databases cover all the major journals, many minor journals, conference proceedings, several Observatory reports and newsletters, many NASA reports, and PhD theses.
Users can query the database by author, astronomical object name (astronomy database only), words in the title, and words in the abstract text. The resulting list is ranked by how closely the paper matches the query. From this list, one can view the full record available for each of the selected publications.
