Books LANDSCAPES: the major Landscape Studies journal Weekend courses Contact Windgather Press publishes accessible and attractive books and journals on landscape history, landscape archaeology, and the history of Britain’s countryside. We have also recently expanded the book list to cover World Heritage Landscapes and an important topic in medieval European archaeology. The journal LANDSCAPES also regularly contains articles on subjects outside the British Isles. The press’s publications are designed not only for those professionally engaged in the subject, but also those with an amateur interest in landscape. We also run fieldwork-based, occasional weekend courses designed to help our readers develop their expertise in landscape history and archaeology. This website gives you information on Windgather’s publications, and its secure ordering facility enables you to buy them. As you will see, we have an exciting programme of new publications for 2004. The name comes from Windgather Rocks, a prominent gritstone edge on the Cheshire/Derbyshire Border, close to the press’s office in Bollington. Well-known amongst climbers and walkers, the edge overlooks a landscape of seventeenth and eighteen century field-walls and scattered farms typical of the western Pennine edge. Windgather Press was founded by Richard Purslow, who runs the company.

    171. English Heritage: Stonehenge & The History Of England
Stonehenge and English History, Castles and Heritage Preservation. English Heritage exists to look after our historic environment
    http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/
Stonehenge and English History, Castles and Heritage Preservation
English Heritage exists to look after our historic environment for future generations to enjoy. With over 400 properties in our care from english castles, world heritage sites like Stonehenge and Hadrian’s Wall to stately homes, historic abbeys, and roman forts we provide a wealth of venues for memorable and educational days out, and offer overseas visitors plenty of ideas for places to visit in England. We also run many exciting historical events such as battle re-enactments, concerts and manage entry to Stonehenge for the Stonehenge solstice. There are plenty of events for children to keep even the most demanding child entertained over the school holidays. We promote education and understanding of english history, such as the changing architecture of castles throughout the ages. Many of our properties are rich in tudor history and victorian history, and many have aspects of multiple periods of history all under one roof. The furnishings and décor often reflect a famous historic era such as when Elizabeth I or Henry VIII visited one of their English castles. Some of our heritage sites were the home of famous figures from history, such as the home of Charles Darwin at Down House in Orpington. Stonehenge About English Heritage Conserving Englands History News ... FAQ We also run many archaeological projects, including working closely with Time Team and conservation projects, give out building maintenance grants to look after castles and buildings at risk, regulate listed buildings and run the famous blue plaque scheme in London, Merseyside, Birmingham, Portsmouth and Southampton. We also work closely with the National Trust particularly on World heritage sites such as Stonehenge.
