As such it can boast a rich tradition. However, the Board of the Society felt that modern zoological research require a new international approach for the journal. The society has, therefore, appointed a brand new Executive Editor and a completely new, international Editorial Board, consisting of leading scientists in zoology. The new editorial team will consider manuscript submission form the wide field of zoology and accept only those that pas the refereeing process, where quality and originality of the work are the main criteria. Animal Biology publishes articles from all quarters of zoology, including ecology, behaviour, evolution, morphology, neurobiology, developmental biology, physiology, cognition, endocrinology, systematics, genomics and theoretical biology.

Welcome
The School of Animal Biology was formed in 2003 from the amalgamation of the Departments of Zoology and Animal Science, from the former Faculties of Science and Agriculture. The School continues the traditional strengths of each of these departments in basic and applied animal science, and provides new strengths from the synergy of the two former departments. Our goal is to teach and conduct high quality research in animal biology and animal production at both fundamental and applied levels. The interests of the School’s staff are broad, covering native animal species (vertebrates and invertebrates) and species used in agriculture and aquaculture. Our research strengths are in:
  • animal reproduction evolutionary biology including speciation, systematics, sexual selection, population ecology and animal acoustics; comparative physiology including nutrition, ecophysiology, energetics, lactation and respiratory physiology;

Centre for Research in Animal Biology
In 1993 the University of Waikato, the New Zealand Pastoral Agricultural Research Institute Ltd (AgResearch) and the Dairying Research Corporation Ltd (DRC) jointly established a Centre for Research in Animal Biology. This agreement formalises the strong ties which have linked the University with the Ruakura Agricultural Research Centre since the University's establishment in 1964, particularly through the involvement of a large number of students in postgraduate research on agricultural topics. Two independent research organisations, AgResearch and the DRC, are established on the Ruakura campus, and are charged with research in animal biology. Research conducted in those organisations, and at the University, is to a major extent funded by the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology. Closer links between these organisations will be to their mutual benefit. The Centre for Research in Animal Biology seeks to encourage University students, staff members and research fellows to undertake study and research in association with scientists of AgResearch and the DRC. Members of the Centre have access to the facilities of all three campuses, and study at any of these campuses may be credited to fulfilment of the requirements for award of degrees and diplomas of the University. Senior scientists in AgResearch and the DRC contribute to several lecture courses in the Department of Biological Sciences and supervise a number of graduate and postgraduate students.

Welcome to the Department of Zoology at Michigan State University. Zoology is the branch of natural science that deals with the integrative study of animal biology. It is concerned with every level of biological organization from the gene to the biosphere, and with the structure, physiology, behavior, genetics, development, distribution, ecology and evolution of animals in all taxonomic groups. Research and course work within the department cover an enormous array of organisms, as well as diverse investigative techniques. Students in the department obtain a broad education in biology while also specializing in the particular aspects of zoology that interest them most. Training in zoology can help students to prepare for a wide variety of careers including biomedical research, medicine, dentistry, biotechnology, veterinary science, marine biology, wildlife conservation, environmental science, work in zoological parks and aquaria, behavioral biology, and teaching. We invite you to explore this website to find out more about the programs offered through the Department of Zoology. If you would like more information, simply contact the department:
