Bringing Astronomy to the Amateur Observer
Astronomy has so much information written from the perspective of the astronomy learnt from world class professional telescopes or space probes that the real amateur astronomer is left behind. Global Skies endeavours to bring amateur astronomy back to the amateur astronomer observing from home with their own amateur astronomical telescope and equipment. Global Skies concentrates on what can be achieved with astronomical equipment the amateur astronomer can use from their own home. The amateur astronomical telescope may not necessarily be basic, modern amateur astronomical telescopes and astronomy aids can be very advanced. In this site what you will read is dedicated to what you can really do yourself as an amateur astronomer. The astronomy telescopes are listed in various ways to aid in finding the right one. are there to guide the amatuer astronomer to find things to look at, learn how to observe and also use the telescopes or other equipment. Hyde Observatory is still open! The Holmes Lake Restoration Project has caused some confusion in getting to Hyde Observatory on Saturday nights, and for meetings of the Prairie Astronomy Club. There is now a temporary gate just after the Golf Course turn off. This gate will be opened by the Hyde Supervisor about 15 minutes before open time for Hyde and before club meetings (and will be closed and locked after closing). Please be careful as there is a riser of dirt across the road. This is to protect the road from heavy equipment crossing it. Please cross this mound carefully as you proceed to Hyde Observatory. Note: after a snow, the south side of the gate may not be open (it sometimes freezes to the street and the Supervisor is unable to open it). This gate has a sign that says do not enter. During Hyde Observatory's open hours (currently 7 - 10 pm) it is alright to ignore this sign and proceed to Hyde Observatory. Build on a Legacy - Become a Hyde Volunteer Help build on a tradition of astronomy education and public observing at Hyde Observatory. It's a lot of fun and can be very rewarding.

Greetings and salutations, enlightened web traveller! You have found the home page of the Twin City Amateur Astronomers , bringing astronomy to the masses in the twin cities of Bloomington-Normal, Illinois, and the surrounding county. Since 1960, the members of the Twin City Amateur Astronomers have explored the heavens, sought to share the joys of astronomy with the community, and generally just have a good time. These web pages represent an extension of our mission: now we are not only bringing astronomy to the masses in situ , as it were, but in a virtual way, to people hunched over their computer monitors. Hey, people, straighten up!
