Lunar module pilot and Michigan alumni James Irwin along with commander David Scott completed the first of the extended lunar scientific expeditions dubbed the J-series. This mission was the first mission designed to explore the Moon over longer periods, greater ranges, and with more scientific instruments. The Boeing 777 is one of Boeing's award winning commercial airplanes. The Boeing Company is one of many industrial ties that the department maintains. Michigan Alumini pursue a wide range of careers in the aerospace community. From left to right, Captain Najeeb Ahmed, Captain John Seo, Major Kari Smith, Captain Christy Stagg, Captain Greg McGovern, Mr. Frank Stagg. From left to right, bottom row; Captain Kurt Lee, Captain Tim Chong. The University of Michigan offered the first program in aeronautical engineering in the United States, more then 80 years ago. Since then, we have graduated more then 4,000 aeronautical and aerospace engineers. Our graduates have gone on to distinguished careers in the aerospace industry and in a wide range of related fields, as well as in the government and academica. Many have become leaders in industry as engineers, managers, and executives. They include designer or such revolutionary aircraft as the U-2 and SR-71 Blackbird.

Welcome to the Department of AEA
The Aerospace Engineering Department website has a brand new look. For aerospace undergraduate information, please contact Professor Haritonidis . For aerospace graduate information, please contact Professor Bodonyi . For all aviation inquiries, please e-mail Charles Patterson, PhD . If you have problems viewing the website, please e-mail the Webmaster The Department of Aerospace Engineering and Aviation (AEA) was formed in 1994 by consolidating the former Departments of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering (AAE) and Aviation (AVI) as a result of restructuring of the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University. Within the new AEA Department the Aerospace Engineering (AER) Section offers the Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering (AAE) Degree Program and the Aviation (AVI) Section offers the Aviation Degree Program. Thanks to the new academic and research opportunities the consolidation offers, The Department of AEA is poised to take on the challenge of providing solutions to the societal problems of the state and the nation for the 21st century through technology and education. You are welcome to visit our department! We will be pleased to give you or your group a guided tour of our impressive laboratories and upfront firsthand information on the career opportunities that will be open to you by a degree from one of our programs in Aerospace Engineering or Aviation. Please contact the Department Chairman if you are interested in visiting us.

Information on the low-speed airfoil tests for model aircraft (mostly), unmanned aerial vehicles, small wind turbines, and more. Summary of Low-Speed Airfoil Data - Volume 3 is now available. UIUC LSATs airfoil data from Volumes 1, 2 and 3 is on the web. For airfoil design on the web, go to PROFOIL-WWW (airfoil design page is under repair) . Also, check out Mike Garton's new airfoil-performance comparison page at http://soaring.cnde.iastate.edu/calcs/frames.shtml . This site makes use of the UIUC LSATs low Reynolds number airfoil data.

    Product Focus

From SAE, the largest publisher of mobility technology, Aerospace Engineering magazine's editorial covers the total life cycle of both aircraft and space vehicles. It does this by providing the critical engineering and technical information those charged with designing, developing, producing, and maintaining industry's vehicles and its systems need to accomplish their work. A sampling of just some of the technical topics covered by its engineering editors include: propulsion, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, materials, avionics, electronics, fuels, lubricants, CAD/CAM/CAE/CIM, testing, manufacturing, safety, deicing, maintenance, space craft, helicopters, military aircraft, commercial aircraft, air transportation, business aircraft, private aircraft, regional aircraft, the World Aviation Congress, the Farnborough and Paris Air Show. Aerospace Engineering's unique focus makes it a most productive ad environment for suppliers wishing to reach the individuals responsible for vehicle content and purchase decisions. As engineers look to the magazine for thorough coverage of industry's latest design, product, process, and technology advances to aid in daily development challenges, advertised messages have a greater chance of getting noticed and being specified into future vehicles. It offers marketers a variety of resources for reaching the aerospace industry: from display advertising, classified and recruitment advertising, to online advertising and the rental of its mailing list.
