41. Christian Vegetarianism
CHRISTIAN vegetarianism. The significant rise of vegetarianism in recent years has inevitably come to include a Christian minority within its ranks.
http://members.aol.com/feloflife/feloflife.html
CHRISTIAN VEGETARIANISM "A BIBLICAL APPROACH TO LIFE" Go forth to every part of the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation". (Mark 16:15 ) Traditional Christian abstinence from animal flesh is usually associated with its esoteric sects and the search for spiritual growth through physical discipline. The significant rise of vegetarianism in recent years has inevitably come to include a Christian minority within its ranks. Whilst the values themselves may appear to have altered, they stem once again from the very essence of the faith itself. The spiritual truth; Do unto others as you would have done unto you is by no means unique to Christianity. It can be found within the sacred scriptures of every major world religion. At the heart of Christianity, in particular, can be found the qualities of love, mercy, compassion, pity and peace. This will sound ironic in the light of just how badly the spirit of the religion has at times been embodied by its adherents. In itself, vegetarianism is but one small step towards approximating the peaceable kingdom. There exists no ' pure land ' theology, but a need for humility as well as vision. To a growing number of Christians, however, there exists no means of reconciling the institutionalised violence of the meat industry, and its inherent disrespect for life, with divine will. Far from being a substitute religion or a modern day heresy, vegetarianism is increasingly advocated on Biblical grounds. To many, it is not merely an objection to the conduct of the world, but a physical statement of faith.

Vegetarian Nutrition for Teenagers
by Reed Mangels, Ph.D., R.D.
Help yourself and others. Click here for ways to support this website and The Vegetarian Resource Group. More and more teenagers are choosing not to eat meat, poultry or fish. They are becoming vegetarians. Teenage vegetarians are often faced with pressures pressures from parents concerned about their health, and pressures from within to continue on the path they have chosen.
Variety is the Key to a Healthy Vegetarian Diet
Probably the most frequent questions for teenage vegetarians are about the nutritional adequacy of their food choices. A vegetarian diet can be enjoyed by people of all ages. The key to a healthy vegetarian diet is variety. Just as your parents should be concerned if you only eat hamburgers, they should also worry if you only eat potato chips and salad. A healthy, varied vegetarian diet includes fruits, vegetables, plenty of leafy greens, whole grain products, nuts, seeds and legumes. Some vegetarians also choose to eat dairy products and/or eggs. Teenage vegetarians have nutritional needs that are the same as any other teenager. The years between 13 and 19 are times of especially rapid growth and change. Nutritional needs are high during these years. The nutrients you will probably be asked about the most are protein, calcium, iron, and vitamin B12.

Back PETS AND VEGETARIANISM
First broadcast on www.provet.co.uk This information is provided by Provet for educational purposes only. You should seek the advice of your veterinarian if your pet is ill as only he or she can correctly advise on the diagnosis and recommend the treatment that is most appropriate for your pet. Vegetarianism is gaining popularity in human society and vegetarian pet owners often wish to feed their pets an exclusively vegetarian diet - but is it safe ? From a nutritional point of view our pets can be classified into one of these groups
  • Carnivores - eat food material derived from other animals Herbivores - eat food material derived from plants, ie they are vegetarians Omnivores - eat food material derived from either other animals or from plants. Some omnivores can obtain all their nutritional requirements from a vegetarian ration. Grain or seed eaters (birds - hardbilled)) Insectivore - eat insects (birds - softbilled) Fish / plankton eaters (waterbirds)
Unfortunately this definition is confusing because the scientific definition of a "carnivore" is based upon anatomical characteristics and evolutionary evidence and it sometimes does not agree with the actual feeding capabilities of the species concerned.

46. Judaism And Vegetarianism
Judaism, vegetarianism, jewish, vegetarian, animals, diet, environment, health, animal rights. A central site on the ideas of Jewish vegetarianism
http://www.jewishveg.com/
Jewish Vegetarianism Online Course FAQ Jewish Recipes ... Media Why is it that many Jewish religious leaders advocate vegetarianism, including the late Chief Rabbi of Israel Shlomo Goren and the first Chief Rabbi of pre-state Israel Abraham Kook? Why is it that the former Chief Rabbi of Ireland David Rosen considers "the consumption of meat as halachically unacceptable"? Why is it that, after India, Israel has the largest number of faith-based vegetarians in the world? The Torah is full of commandments demanding humane treatment of animals, yet the modern factory farms that produce over 90% of the animal products we consume today raise their animals in unconscionable conditions of abject misery. The Torah reflects great concern for the land, yet as the primary cause of water pollution, water use, topsoil erosion, destruction of the world's rainforest, and other environmental harms, animal agriculture takes a devastating toll on the planet. Jewish teachings emphasize the grave importance of protecting human health, yet the consumption of animal products in the United States is responsible for numerous diseases including heart disease, America's number one killer. Judaism places great concern on providing for the poor and the hungry, yet while 800 million people do not have enough food to sustain themselves, our carnivorous diets are at least ten times as wasteful of food resources as a vegetarian one. Please read and learn about the growing Jewish vegetarian movement, and think about how Jewish teachings relate to decisions we make everyday as we sit down to eat. As Rabbi Isaac ha-Levi Herzog said, "Jews will move increasingly to vegetarianism out of their own deepening knowledge of what their tradition commands... A whole galaxy of central rabbinic and spiritual leaders...has been affirming vegetarianism as the ultimate meaning of Jewish moral teaching."

Why should a Hindu not eat beef? Of course, Hindus see 33 crore Gods in it. For that matter, they see God in all entities of the world. Weren't it we who said, "Eeshavasya midam sarvam..."? )
To go to the details of it we may have to go into the Vedic Vishwa. Basically vedas refer "Gou" as animal and as well as "Indriya"(senses). The word "Gou" over the period of time became "Cow" in English(Apabhransh). In Vedic peroid some yajnas were practiced
  • AshwaMedh
  • GouMedh
  • AjaMedh The real meaning of each of these word Vedic people knew. Over the period they(words) lost meanings and people considered Ashwamedh = to sacrifice Ashwa(Ghoda) GouMedh = to sacrifice Gou(Gaya) AjaMedh = to sacrifice Aja(Bakara) . This wrong interpretations of these words resulted in heavy sacrifices of Gou and Aja (Bakara).

20 Questions About Vegetarianism
by Renee Cloe, ACE Certified Personal Trainer 1. What are the different types of vegetarians? 2. What are the health benefits of a vegetarian diet? 3. Is it possible to get enough protein on a vegetarian diet? 4. How much protein do I need, anyway? ... 20. Where can I get more information? 1. What are the different types of vegetarians? There are several different variations of the vegetarian diet. Strict vegetarians, called vegans , eat no animal products at all. The staples of their diets are fruits, vegetables, legumes (beans and peas), grains, seeds, and nuts. Lacto-vegetarians eat dairy products in addition to plant foods. Lacto-ovo vegetarians include dairy products and eggs as well as plant foods in their diets. People who eat animal flesh (meat, fish, chicken) are not considered to be vegetarians. However, as the health benefits of a vegetarian diet become more widely known, many people reduce or eliminate animal products. For example, they may eat fish and chicken but no red meat, or they may eat meat in small portions only a few times a week. These people can most accurately be described as following a semi-vegetarian diet.

  • Why are they vegetarian?
    Laws Ordaining Food
Nature's law is that one living being exists by eating another. The scriptures give regulations for human life and set aside certain foods for human beings. That quota is divided into six categories, namely vegetables, fruits, milk products, grains, sugar and nuts. With these six ingredients we can maintain our health very well, far better than meat eaters maintain their health. Vegetarians are more healthy than meat eaters, and their endurance is greater, although they may not have brute strength. Just consider that the elephant is a powerful animal, yet he never eats even a scrap of meat. Principle of Non-violence
The Bible says, "Thou shalt not kill," but everywhere people are slaughtering animals and eating them. All religious scriptures promote non-violence as the first principle of religious life. Whatever we see is created by God. No one has the right to kill anything or anyone, because no one can create anything. We cannot create an animal. We cannot create even a mosquito, so we should not kill even a mosquito. Spiritual life means non-violence. Animals should be protected. This is confirmed in the Bible:
Whatever you do unto the least of my brothers, you do it unto me. (

The first vegetarian meal I ever cooked was perhaps ten years ago, and whilst my house mates were all out, I thought I'd surprise them with a curry.
I looked through the kitchen and found a cookbook that had a 'vegetable curry' in it. Perfect, I thought. We had most of the ingredients and I only had to buy a couple of things at the local corner shop to make up the rest.
I followed the instructions dutifully and it didn't look or smell bad when it was all in the pot cooking.
However, upon taste I discovered that it, well, didn't have any. It just tasted like water, and what's worse was that the potatoes weren't cooked. They were, in fact, raw.
At this moment, everyone came home and said things like, 'Oooh a curry, great! I love curry!'
I admitted there were problems and the girls stood in the kitchen and examined my pot.
'You didn't cook the potatoes before putting them in?' They asked, as if I was the most stupid person on the planet for not knowing that I should do this.
'The recipe didn't say I should.' I defended myself.
