Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada explains in the purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 7.5.23-24, hearing from realized devotees is an important part of advancing in Krishna consciousness: While hearing is the first process in developing Krishna consciousness, chanting the Hare Krishna mantra is the second. This mantra consists of the holy names which, unlike ordinary words, when uttered place one into immediate contact with God. By repeated, attentive chanting of these names, a person cleanses his or her mind and develops spiritual consciousness, as well as transcendental bliss. The Transcendental Chanting Machine below can assist you in chanting Hare Krishna. Just read along as the names of the Lord appear in the window. The speed of the chanting is adjustable. Above is beautiful Krishna. Although He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He enjoys pastimes as a cowherd boy in rustic Vrndavan.

The Divya Prabandham
The Divya Prabandham is the collective corpus of the passionate hymns of the Alvar mystics (5th-8th centuries A.D.). It was the scholar-saint Nathamuni who, in the 10th century, retrieved and compiled this bhakti treasure which is the pride of Tamil classical literature. The Sri Vaishnava guru parampara (inheritance order of the preceptors) is held to commence from Lord Sri Narayana himself, and to centre, rightly so, around Sri Nathamuni and his grandson Sri Yamuna. The Alvars represented all the caste-groups of the society and their works enjoy the status of "dravida" or Tamil Veda, on par with the "girvaana" Veda in pre-Panini Sanskrit. The Divya Prabandham is in the form of adoration of the deities of 108 temples (divya desams) situated in different parts of the country, and employs every form of poetics (aNi) and prosody (chandam) available in Tamil. The version presented here was typed in by a small group of volunteers in 1994. To download the entire collection of poems, click here for the DOS version (zipped) or here for the Unix version (tarred and gzipped).

Prophet [Kinkara] Sankaradeva, Jagatguru, brought the Vaishnava Faith to light from the Holy Scripture "Bhagawata Puran" in its original form to a society that worshipped Shakti -the power of violence. He is recognized as the symbol of love, peace and tranquility. He brought enlightenment to the culture, tradition and life-style in ancient Kamrup or present Assam, Northeast India and some parts of North India. Prophet was born on aahin shukla navamii tithi 1st Sankarabda -precisely, on that day divided during the day light according to Vedic time calculation method-about 551 years ago referring to year 1999. The Assamese calendar, which is called Sankarabda, starts on the date of his birth. The calendar uses the lunar system. Prophet has been a living legend throughout Assam. His followers celebrate his birthday as the "param vaishnava abirbhab-din" or Incarnation Day of Paramm Vaishnava. As they believed Prophet was the incarnation of a "maha/parama vaishnava" described in "bhagawata puran", they performed this event on his birth day each year.]

Bhakti and Prapatti An article by Sri Karalappakam Anantha Padhmanabhan
Articles
  • Samasrayanam
  • AdheyatvA (i.e. being supported by a sarIrI): Existence of the sarIrA(body) is due to the sarIrI i.e. sarIrI supports the sarIrA. In other words, if sarIrI ceases to exist, sarIrA also ceases to exist.
  • niyamyatvA (i.e. being controlled by a sarIrI): Not only that sarIrA derives its existence from a sarIrI, it is also being controlled by the sarIrI. So, sarIrA acts as per the will/desires of sarIrI.
  • seshatvA It is to be noted that the "sarIrI" needn't be physically present inside a "sarIrA". This is not a condition to be met out for the sarIra-sarIrI bhAvA to hold good. sAstrAs declare that Bhakti and prapatti are the only two means (sAdhya upAyAs) by which the baddha jIvAtmAs can attain moksham, while the Divya Dampati are the Siddha upAyam. NArAyaNA Himself, in Ahirbudhnya samhitA categorically declares: "bhaktyA paramayA vA-pi prapattyA vA mahAmathe
prApyoham na anyathA prApyO mama kainkarya lipsubhihi"
The seven general pre-requisites for Bhakti YogA are:
  • VivekA (discrimination): Purification of body through proper intake of sAttvik food etc.
