The central idea of Visishtadvaita is this: there exists an Ultimate Principle, an Absolute Being that is the source and substratum of all that exists. This immanent spirit is the inner guide and controller of the whole universe with all its diverse animate and inanimate elements. Communion with this gracious, omnipotent Supreme Being constitutes the supreme end of existence. Such communion is attainable exclusively through self-surrender and undivided, loving meditation. Vaishnava Philosophy Yoga Connecting with the Supreme A popular philosophy of life these days is, "Everything is relative. What is good for me is not necessarily good for you (and vice versa). Therefore nobody shall tell me what to do, because there are no absolute truths . Everything is relative." But this materially attractive philosophy is seriously flawed. " Everything is relative" is an absolute statement. How do you know that everything is relative? It is good that people have become suspicious of the term "absolute truth." Much cruelty has been and still is inflicted upon people in the name of the "Absolute." Yet what is designated as absolute has nothing to do with and is the very antithesis of Absolute Truth. It is absolutistic untruth. The word "absolute" comes from the latin word absolutum (past participle of the verb absolvere , to "unbind"), meaning "unbound, unconditioned." Therefore the Absolute is not dependent on something relative. Everything relative is dependent on the Absolute. Absolute is all-inclusive, but absolutistic is all-exclusive. So religions or philosophies that claim to be the only ones are not absolute, but they are absolutistic because they exclude others. They cause division and hatred amongst men. Therefore a true understanding of the Absolute Truth is necessary.

Sri Vaishnava Alvars Add/View Comments T HE A LVAR S AINTS Alvar means one who is "immersed" in the experience of God, the omnipresent mysterious One. Tradition reckons 12 Alvars. They come from all walks of life and all strata of society and include in their ranks one woman. Between the fifth and ninth century, in the Tamil-speaking region of South India, these saints revitalized the Indian religious milieu, sparking a renewal of devotional worship throughout the subcontinent. EDITORIAL Vaishnava Aparadha: The Greatest Hurdle Of Devotional Practice BY SRILA BHAKTI BALLABH TIRTHA GOSWAMI MAHARAJ Srila Bhakti Vinode Thakur has written about four kinds of offences in the second period of devotional practice in the book Sri Bhajan Rahasya' compiled by him. krsna nama svarupesu tadiya citkanesu ca jieya budhaganer nityam aparadhaScaturvidhah These are: (1) offence to the holy Name of Krishna (Namaparadh); (2) offence to Supreme Lord Sri Krishna (Seva-aparadh); (3) offence to the Lotus Feet of a devotee; (4) (other than devotees) even unjust act to individual spirit soul is also considered offense. But the Supreme Lord never tolerates oppression or unjust act inflicted upon a devotee. If anybody out of personal grudge always speaks about the weak-points or defects of others, those defects will surely rebound to the speaker. Anti-devotional and abominable practices are to be condemned, but it is not good to personally attack anybody out of animosity. There will be reaction of such hostile action and the result will be harmful. Bonafide sadhus have no grudge against anybody in this world, but they condemn anti-devotional practices, so that all can achieve the highest good of pure devotion for everyone's benefit. Our Most Revered Srila Gurudeva often used to say: "The means is justified by the end." Genuineness of means is justified by the genuineness of the end. If the end is bad, the means will be bad and the fruits of all efforts will end in frustration.
