Who We Are
Metropolitan Community Churches [MCCs] were created in 1968 as a way of providing an environment where homosexual Christians could freely worship God and grow in their spiritual journeys. MCC created an environment where all people are accepted, affirmed, and celebrated because of who they are (children of God in infinite variety) and not in spite of an aspect of who they are (such as their sexual orientation). Having experienced personally the tragedy of ignorant and insensitive treatment by those who would shun us as being unworthy, we have become sensitive to the needs of all oppressed peoples or minorities (whether visible or not) and have therefore developed a framework for ourselves which embraces our sexuality - everyone's sexuality - celebrates uniqueness, and strives for inclusivity in all its dimensions. The services we offer (see below) are specially - but not exclusively - geared to people in the gay, bisexual, lesbian and transsexual community. As unique as we feel we are, we are in the end a Christian church which is struggling to understand and follow God's will. In that quest, we are not unique but in some areas we seem to be uniquely successful. So we see ourselves as being here for a long time (since many churches are finding it so difficult to embrace gay and bisexual persons and minister to those with AIDS.) The road we are travelling will be walked by many many people, both gay and non-gay - and we very much welcome that. We started by dealing with gay issues and now we are dealing with God issues that are so exciting in this church. We are not in MCC to become isolated from other churches, nor are we in MCC until there is someplace else to go, we are on a spiritual journey that is trying to faithfully integrate our life experiences in this world and our growing vision (revelation) of God's will for us.

Metropolitan Community Church proclaims the Good News of Jesus Christ that every person is loved by God. There is no condemnation because one is gay or lesbian. Perhaps you are gay or lesbian. Perhaps one of your loved ones or friends is. You undoubtedly know persons who are, whether you are aware of it or not. It may be that the traditional attitude of church and society toward gay and lesbian people causes you concern or pain. You may have become convinced that gay and lesbian people are shut out of Christ's realm and out of the Church. Many people have been taught that the Bible condemns homosexuality. Metropolitan Community Church believes that this is not the truth. We believe that gay and lesbian people are completely loved and accepted by God. How can there be such a difference between parts of the Christian Church over this issue? Largely because unproven ideas have been taught for centuries about some Scripture passages. In recent times, scholars have finally begun to study these passages in depth, with the support of historical and archaeological information about biblical times.

Note: Liberated Christians is a primarily about heterosexual relationships. While we are supportive of all sexual orientations, the leaders do not have the resources to assist them in their special issues. Thus, our Fellowship groups are not appropriate for gays/lesbians. However, individually Dave (an extreme heterosexual - Kinsey Scale= 0) has done extensive biblical research and has been active supporting biblical homosexuality for many years. However, there is no "official" stand as an organization on homosexuality other than general support.

Introduction
Not A Sin-Not A Sickness
UFMCC's Statement of Christian Faith
INTRODUCTION
The Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches plays a vital role in addressing the spiritual needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered community around the world. For those of us who were raised in a religious atmosphere, homosexuality was usually associated with shame and guilt. As a result, many of us were cut off from the spiritual dimension of our lives. Metropolitan Community Churches provide an opportunity to explore a spiritual experience that affirms who we are. Today, as self-aware and self-affirming gay men and lesbians, we reclaim the fullness of our humanity, including our spirituality. We find great truths in the religious tradition, and we find that our encounter with God is transformational and healing.

Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches In 1968, twelve gay men and lesbians met in the light of day to worship God openly. Rev. Troy D. Perry founded the Metropolitan Community Church of Los Angeles, the first congregation of our movement. MCC Los Angeles has gone through more than its share of trials throughout the years. In the early years, it was frequently forced to move to new locations, as landlords discovered who they were. In 1973, a fire of suspicious origin burned the church to the ground. In 1994, just after extensive renovations had been completed, their building was destroyed by the devastating Northridge earthquake. The Metropolitan Community Church of Los Angeles is currently led by Rev. Elder Nancy Wilson, who recently celebrated her 10th year as their Senior Pastor. MCCLA has long been recognized for its role in nurturing and developing organizations in the gay and lesbian community. It has always believed that the future of the gay and lesbian community is dependent on the wholeness and health of its spiritual, cultural, and educational institutions. Its members have participating in founding, and have provided leadership, volunteer support, and financial support to scores of organizations including Christopher Street West, Caring for Babies With AIDS, the Free Spirit Metropolitan Community Church prison ministry at the California Institute for Women, Unity Fellowship, and Temple Beth Chayim Chadashim, a synagogue for gay men and lesbians. This tradition continues today.

    About MCC of Greater Hayward
    What We Believe
MCC of Greater Hayward is a member congregation of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (UFMCC). UFMCC is an international denomination of Christian people. Our first congregation was founded in Los Angeles in 1968 by Troy Perry, a former Church of God of Prophecy clergyperson. The Reverend Elder Perry is Moderator of the denomination. Troy founded UFMCC as a healing response to the condemnation lesbians and gay men experience in most Christian denominations. In MCC we celebrate the fullness of the gospel-the Good News of God's love through Jesus Christ to every person. Our denomination, which welcomes all people, continues to embrace a special ministry within the lesbian/gay, bisexual and transgender community.
    About the UFMCC Logo:
The chi rho cross is an ancient Christian symbol which the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches embraces as its logo. The Greek letters chi and rho in the center are the first two letters in "Christos" or Christ. The letters alpha and omega , the first and last of the Greek alphabet, refer to the words of Jesus in the Revelation, "I am the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end."
