KELD-IN-SWALEDALE UNITED REFORMED CHURCH Keld is a tiny village at the top of Swaledale in North Yorkshire. Swaledale is within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and an increasingly popular destination for holiday visitors. Our church building is in the bottom of the village, set within its own churchyard. It is near where a short path leads to the Pennine Way and the Coast to Coast long-distance footpath. Many visitors to Keld arrive on foot. A Wainwright in his famous Walking Guides describes Keld and our chapel: The little cluster of stone buildings at Keld, tidily yet haphazardly arranged along its only 'street', is attractively situated on a headland overlooking the Swale. Little has changed here for generations past and proud dates and names of proud men adorn the doorways and walls and even the chapel belfry: a sundial measures the hours but time is measured in centuries at Keld. Worship is held on alternate Sundays, at 9.00am in summer and 2.00pm in winter. (There is also a Methodist Church in Keld. On the other Sundays worship is held there at 2.00pm.)

Our building (above) does not have the normal appearance of a church, more resembling a house and being in a row of houses in the main Fore Street of the village, but it has been in existence for nearly 200 years. Bere Alston is near Tavistock, which is on the edge of Dartmoor, and is in the parish of Bere Ferrers. The two villages of Bere Ferrers and Bere Alston are on a peninsula created by the rivers Tamar and Tavy in an area of outstanding natural beauty. We are just north of Plymouth, fortunately separated from it by the River Tavy!
