Gomer is a 350 member church of the United Church of Christ. It is located about 7 miles Northwest of Lima Ohio, just off of the Lincoln Highway (Old US Rt. 30). We have an active Sunday School, Jr. High and Sr. High Youth Groups, three Women's Fellowships, and a Sr. Citizen's Fellowship. Music is large part of Gomer's life, and we have a wonderful Children's Choir and great Adult Choir, and a brand new Handbell Choir. Gomer's Welsh heritage is one of its unique features. It keeps in touch with its roots through its Welsh celebrations of the Gymanfa Ganu and St. David's Day. Gomer U.C.C. is also the home-base of the Northwest Ohio Welsh Society and the singing sensation The Townsmen Trio. To find out more about these, click the links at the bottom of this page..

Justice and Peace : War Against Iraq
Statement of United Church of Christ leaders opposing U.S. war against Iraq With heavy hearts we hear once again the drumbeat of war against Iraq. As United Church of Christ leaders committed to GodÕs reign of justice and peace in the world and to the just conduct of our nation, we firmly oppose this advance to war. The case for a preemptive attack on Iraq has not been made. While IraqÕs weapons potential is uncertain, the death that would be inflicted on all sides in a war is certain. Striking against Iraq now will not serve to prevent terrorism or defend our nationÕs interests. We fear that war would only provoke greater regional instability and lead to the mass destruction it is intended to prevent. The human cost of war would be enormous, both to the United States and to Iraq. The most severe impact of a military assault on Iraq would be on its already suffering civilian population. Over a decade of containment and isolation, of crippling comprehensive sanctions, and of routine U.S. and British bombing have created miserable conditions inside Iraq. The sanctions have induced poverty, malnutrition, and starvation on the most vulnerable of the Iraqi people, including millions of children. These civilians, innocent of the atrocities Saddam Hussein has committed, should not bear the burden of deprivation and death such a war would surely exact on them. While we condemn Saddam HusseinÕs repressive policies, we are alarmed that our nationÕs leaders would consider taking unilateral military action to remove him. To do so without any support from our Arab friends, without allied consensus, and without United Nations authorization puts U.S. leadership and credibility under international law at stake. A preemptive war against Iraq also risks the solidarity and good will the global community has shown the United States this past year, already strained in recent months by our nationÕs sharpened turn toward unilateralism. U.S. military action and our uncertain plans for Iraq afterward, including the potential for a long-term U.S. presence in Iraq, jeopardize most of all our tenuous relations with Arab and Muslim states in the region, in turn severely damaging U.S. prospects of successfully brokering new Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

Do something this Memorial Day weekend to symbolize your commitment to peace and justice. Lights for Human Dignity is an interfaith response to the atrocities in Iraq recently reported but apparently occurring since the war began. On Sunday evening, May 30, put lights in your windows at home and at your church which can be kept on through the night, until dawn on May 31. Call your local newspaper or TV station to let them know why you are doing this. Pray for peace.

Tell YUM CEO No Empty Offers
YUM (the parent company to Taco Bell) has the power to end the exploitation of the tomato pickers supplying Taco Bell. But it is not offering to do this. Instead, at the May 20th annual shareholder meeting, YUM CEO David Novak offered to do something YUM probably does not have the power to do - to sway the Florida Legislature and make changes within the tomato industry. Send a fax to YUM CEO David Novak and let him know that empty offers are not enough.
