Connection to Canadian Foodgrains Bank
When you give, your contribution can be credited to the UCC account. UCC determines how those funds, and any CIDA matching funds, will be used.
UCC receives requests for food from its overseas partners. Each request is reviewed to ensure the food and support provided will improve the lives of the people receiving the assistance - in both the short and long terms.
Once planning is complete (including details to ensure safe and reliable delivery), Canadian Foodgrains Bank arranges the purchase and shipping of the food. UCC often works together with other Foodgrains Bank church members on shipments.
The United Church of Canada has been a member of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank since 1984. History The United Church was formed on June 10, 1925 in Toronto, Ontario, when the, Methodist, and Congregational Churches in Canada, and 70 per cent of the Presbyterian Church in Canada entered into union The United Church of Canada is the largest Protestant denomination in Canada. It ministers to over 3.5 million people in 4,100 congregations across the country. A commitment to social justice at the national and international levels has characterized The United Church since its inception. The UCC's support of churches and civil society overseas has been continuos, first through the missionary movement and later through partnership with national churches. Building and deepening just relationships with overseas partners and support of the global ecumenical movement are central ways in which UCC fosters the creation of just, participatory, and sustainable development.

If you are a local resident without a church connection, a weekender, or a visitor to the area looking for a place to worship, we invite you to join with us in worship and fellowship. The times for our Services are listed below. After the 9:30 am Worship Service in Port Carling each Sunday there is a get acquainted time with refreshments. The same happens at the Bala Church prior to the 11:15 am Service. Everyone is welcome. An outline of our Lenten Journey, our church activities and our Easter celebrations are listed below.

COMMENTS ON SUBMISSION BY THE UNITED CHURCH OF CANADA (124) TO THE PANEL
by J.A.L. Robertson
1996 April 26
[Note that P. Timmerman, author of submission 043, acted as consultant for this submission.] At first I welcomed this submission as an opportunity to understand why critics of nuclear energy considered it unethical. However, I soon found so many distortions and omissions of relevant facts that I became highly critical of the critics. Furthermore, it is profoundly offensive in its numerous unsubstantiated allegations against nuclear energy and those who are responsible for it. Either the bias was deliberate or it was unconscious, out of ignorance. If the former, the authors were unethical by their own standards ("It is unethical to arrive at any conclusion based upon the exclusion of the necessary evidence" p.3-9, para.3); if the latter they were not competent to draw conclusions affecting the health, economy and environment of Canadians.
Section 1
"... the health, not only of humans but of the planet itself and everything that subsists in it, is involved." (p.1-1, para.1) is hyperbole approaching scare-mongering. This (para.2)

United Church of Canada
The United Church of Canada is Canada 's second largest church (after the Roman Catholic Church ), and its largest Protestant denomination with over three million members. The current Moderator of the United Church is the Rev. Peter Short The United Church of Canada was formed by Act of Parliament in . It was the merger of four prominent Protestant denominations, the Presbyterian s, the Methodists, the Congregationalists and the Unionists. This merger was unprecedented in world history; Canada was the first country where the Protestant churches elected to pool their resources and become one large non-dogmatic church. The United Church is one of the most socially liberal of the world's large Protestant denominations. It was quick to allow female ministers and has long shied away from a rigid interpretation of the Bible The United Church is also very open to homosexuals. Corporately, the church allows homosexual ministers, celebrates gay unions, and fights for gay rights in the greater community. Church delegates presented evidence in favour of

Church statements and actions The United Church of Canada
Press Release
Tuesday, September 11, 2001 "The United Church of Canada calls for prayer in wake of U.S. tragedy Toronto: The United Church of Canada joins with brothers and sisters in the ecumenical family around the world today in expressing shock and sadness at the horrific series of attacks and massive loss of lives in the United States The church also called on world leaders to refrain from speaking or acting rashly, not knowing by whom these deeds were committed. In a prayer posted on the United Church’s website ( www.uccan.org ), and reproduced here, the church called on Canadians to pray for the victims and their families, as well as for those called into emergency service. PRAYER
As the cries of the bereaved rise across this continent, we turn, O God, to you in shock. We watch as this day of horror unfolds, and cannot fathom the depths of hatred and desperation that could have willed such devastation upon innocent people We, as the people of The United Church of Canada, join with others throughout the world in praying for the victims killed, maimed or wounded, and for their families and loved ones. Be near to those who grieve, we pray.
