This project started as an attempt to make the writings of William Ellery Channing (1780-1842) available on-line. Since then it has grown, but I want to keep Channing in the place of honor. Items with an '*' are included in C. Conrad Wright, THREE PROPHETS OF RELIGIOUS LIBERALISM: Channing - Emerson - Parker , a good introduction to Unitarian Universalist history. Wright's introduction to these three talks will be added here shortly.

to W. E. Channing, 1840. This letter, printed by Garrison in the LIBERATOR, uses the refusal of the Federal Street Church to host a Memorial Service for Charles Follen as an example of the failure of the churches to support the anti-slavery cause. It is likely that Quincy and Garrison hoped to pressure Channing into supporting their cause. The embarrassment contributed to Channing's resignation from the Church.

Summer Services Planning June 6
Christians in the Eastern Church tell us that "theology is a vision of God." In our free Christianity, each of us might have a somewhat different vision of the Divine from our neighbors. What is your vision of God? What spiritual practices hold you close, center you, are meaningful to you? In corporate worship, we might be see our each other, in the words of St. Paul "through a glass, darkly." But each of us hungers to disclose who we are, through words that are meaningful to us, through painting and pictures, music and dance, reflections and poetry, through every means of human expression, to each other, and to God. Some of our expressions might fill up an entire service, or be the framework for an entire service. Some might be parts for a larger service. Some might be elements displayed in our worship space.
St. Paul went on to say in Corinthians, "I know in part, but then shall I know even as I am known." Come "be known," and come be known "face to face," in our community of faith, freedom and learning this summer, as we plan for worship. This is a time when services are less formal and include elements that might not otherwise be included during the year, given our traditional approach to liturgy and worship.

Cult and Fringe Christianity Studies God Is Too Good.. The Error of the Unitarian-Universalist Movement
Introduction
There are a lot of groups in our world today that mimic Christianity. If you were to quickly look at some of these cults, externally they seem to be as Christian as the local Methodist, Baptist, or Presbyterian Churches. Yet when you dig a little deeper you find that, in spite of the well-meaning rhetoric, these are groups of lost people trying to re-create that which Jesus has already fully given at the Cross. The Unitarian/ Universalist movement falls solidly into this category. This article is based on an interview that was made with a Unitarian/Universalist who has been a minister in this sect for over thirty years. I will not give the man's name, nor his place of residency. I intend on preserving his privacy. However, I do want you to know that the following historical perspective and doctrinal positions are truly Unitarian/Universalist, not something that I fabricated. I also want you to know that this article is not meant to be an attack on this sect. These people are not, by any stretch of the imagination, Christians. They reject the Biblical and historic person of Christ, do not believe that His sacrifice on the Cross had any validity, and believe that all men will see God (whether they like it or not).

C HRISTIAN A R ESEARCH M INISTRY www.carm.org HOME PAGE What is Unitarianism?
Unitarianism is the belief that God exists in one person, not three. It is a denial of the doctrine of the Trinity as well as the full divinity of Jesus. Therefore, it is not Christian. There are several groups that fall under this umbrella: Jehovah's Witnesses, Christadelphianism, The Way International, etc. Another term for this type of belief is called monarchianism.
In the context of universalism, the Unitarianism discussed here is that belief that denies the Trinity, the deity of Christ, the personhood of the Holy Spirit, eternal punishment, and the vicarious atonement of Jesus. Unitarian universalists use many biblical concepts and terms but with non-biblical meanings. Unitarianism is not Christian.
There is a group known as the Unitarian Universalists Association. This denomination which was formed in 1961 in the United States when the American Unitarian Association and the Universalist Church of America merged. Its membership is around 175,000.
The General Convention of the Unitarian Universalists formulated the five principles of the Universalist Faith in 1899.
