The Tibetan Buddhist Theory of Chakras
Tantric Buddhism (or Vajrayana ) broke off from the Indian Tantric one at a very early stage. Hence they developed a rather different version of the chakras . Tibetan Buddhism acknowledges four (navel, heart, throat, and head), five, seven, or even ten chakras or "channel wheels"; each with a different number of "spokes" to its Indian Tantric counterpart. The navel chakra for example has sixty-four spokes, the heart chakra eight, the throat sixteen (the only one to agree with the Hindu scheme), and the head or crown chakra thirty-two. There is also, as in Laya-yoga , an elaborate system of correspondences. Note that in this system it is the head-centre, and not, as in many Western interpretations of Hindu Tantra, the Perineal or the base , that is associated with the body and physical consciousness. The throat centre represents a more subtle state of consciousness, the dream state; and the heart centre the refined of all, deep meditataion, dreamless sleep, the peaceful deities and the Clear Light.
Tibetan Woodcut drawings from Ballabene's Paranormal Pages Instead of Kundalini, reference is made to the red and white subtle "drops" in the navel and head chakras respectively, although sometimes other drops are mentioned as well. Through the dissolution of these drops, and of the various subtle winds, in the central channel, one attains transcendent awareness. This happens not only during advanced yoga, but also

Tibetan Buddhism - Bon, Mahayana Buddhism and Tantrism Introduced
To understand how Tibetan Buddhism differs from other Buddhist schools we need to consider its development from two different perspectives, the first ideological and the second historical. Although these are here considered separately, they of course developed with reference to each other. Ideological Development Ideologically Tibetan Buddhism is a derivation of Mahayana Buddhism heavily influenced by Tantrism. To unravel this jargon-cloaked statement, we should take a look at the essential constituents and development of Buddhism, Mahayana Buddhism and Tantrism. Buddhism The term Buddha, meaning "enlightened one", refers to the spiritual awakening of an Indian prince, named Siddhartha Gautama, who lived in the 6th century BCE. Renouncing the privileges of his royal life, he sought to investigate spiritual truth. On so doing, he passed into the state of enlightenment, known as nirvana , which literally means "without desire". Soon he inspired many disciples and came to be known as the "Sage of the Sakya tribe" or Sakyamuni. During his first sermon he established the four core principles of his teaching or dharma:

Tibet Buddhism, also called Lamaism, formed in the 10th century, however Buddhism was introduced into Tibet in the 7th century under the reign of King Songtsen Gampo (?- 649 or 650 AD). He married Nepalese Princess and Chinese Princess who were both Buddhists and brought with them many Buddhist scriptures and statues. Then Buddhism started to mingle with Tibet culture, however during Landama's (or Lang Darma) reign, Buddhism was banned and demolition began before it was restored in the second transmission in the 10th century. Then Tibetan Buddhism established and gradually became dominant in Tibet and spread into neighboring provinces and countries. And later Tibetan Buddhism gradually split into different sects and gained political influence.
Tibet Buddhism is based on Madhyamika and Yogacara and belongs to the Mahayana school. It also utilizes the symbolic ritual practices of Tantric Buddhism (Vajrayana) and incorporates features of the indigenous Tibetan Bon religion in competition with it. It is much more mystical than other forms of Buddhism due to Tantric and Bon influence, strong relying on mudras (ritual postures), mantras (sacred speech), yantras (sacred art) and secret initiation rites.
Tibetan Buddhism has many sects and subsects and the following five are the most influential ones.

Tibetan Buddhism
The historical Buddha, founder of Buddhism in India during the fifth century B.C.E. , taught the impermanence of existence. Tibetan Buddhism, which developed in the seventh century, draws its main tenets from Indian Buddhism: individual enlightenment, the liberation of all beings, and the development of compassion and insight into the nature of reality.
